Beauty and the Bride: Bachelorette Party Prep

Similar to the tale of the Beauty and the Beast, Beauty and the Bride (BATB) will examine a relationship fraught with mistrust, deception, fear, and hopefully, a happy ending.  BeautyXposé will follow BATB as she traverses the perilous landscape of wedding-day beauty leading up to her September nuptials.  Have a question for BATB?  A topic you’d like her to cover?  A conspiracy you’ve uncovered in the Wedding Industrial Complex (WIC) you’d like exposed?  Email her at: beautyandthebride@beautyxpose.com.

Next weekend is my bachelorette party, and I have a confession to make.  I haven’t been to a club since 2002.  It’s been a while and several clothes sizes.  And I have nothing to wear.  And I have no idea how to do my hair.  Or my makeup.  I have no idea how to look like a grown up and still look like I belong in a club.  All without looking like one of THOSE girls.

clubNow don’t get me wrong.  I have no problem with THOSE girls.  You know the ones I mean — the ones with the hair, and the makeup and almost no clothes.  The ones with the heels you have no idea how they went dancing all night in.  The ones that wear the mini-est skirts yet still go on the mechanical bull.  The ones with the courage and the body to do all that.  Yeah, that’s not me.

For my bachelorette party, I need to pick an outfit that is universally awesome.  It has to fit into a number of locations and still make me feel comfortable.  Here’s our itinerary:

6-8: Watch a Roller Derby Bout
9-10:30: Dinner in the Theater District
11:00 – 2: Clubbing

My first thoughts are black pants + sparkly shirt, but what if it’s warm?  What shoes should I wear?  Will it be flexible enough that I can attend all three events, or should I pull a Barbie® and have a convertible outfit?  And as far as make up goes, I think I’ll put on enough for dinner at the start of the evening and then if I feel the need to embellish, I can do it pre-club.  Do you disagree? Have a better idea?  And what can I do with my long hair that will be fun but still survive the evening?  And any advice for a girl who hasn’t been to a club since Avril Lavigne was popular?

This blog had a GREAT article on pony tails a little while ago. I bet you could choose one of those posh pony updates for your hair and it would be both versatile and stylish. Not to mention low maintenance.

The mechanical bull is throwing me off with my outfit as well. I may find myself a pair of leggings for that part of the evening.

Try to think of something that you feel fun and fabulous in. This is all about attitude. You've got to be comfortable in what you are wearing. So find something you like and go with it. Maybe splurge on a pair of fun shoes and center your outfit about that. Or a fun shirt that makes you feel good to wear.

  2. Congrats, BATB on the upcoming nuptials! I must admit, the roller derby part is throwing me a bit. But, in situations, like these, I always say, start from the ground up. You're going to be on your feet for a good long while. So, unless you have a pit stop where you can change your zapatos, you need to make sure your shoes can go the distance. Pick your favorite shoes (for me, that would be an open-toed heel) and build your outfit around them.

Working upwards, the idea of jeans an a sparkly shirt sound ideal. Depending on how low cut your top is and/or how hot/cold it is, consider adding on a scarf on top of the outfit. It's kind of like wearing a cardi, but easier to carry around when you want to take it off–you can even loop it around your purse strap.

As far as makeup, you may not like my answer, but I say you gotta pile on the eye makeup. There are likely to be lots of photos that will end up on this blog or on FB and a smoky eye will make you look hot in photos and that night. Use a good eyeshadow base (like Urban Decay's Primer Potion) and your favorite long-wearing mascara and you're GTG!

My own bachelorette party is in October so I'll ask you for advice then. Hope this helps!
