Because my fiancé and I have been together for 12 years, I have an assortment of intimate apparel from various stages of our relationship. As a result, I have a pretty wide variety of styles, colors, even sizes.
To get some guidance for the honeymoon, I dragged my fiancé to the Semi-Annual Sale at Victoria’s Secret and the lingerie department at Macy’s. While Vicky’s was uneventful, Macy’s had a pretty decent selection. Since he wanted it to be a surprise, we talked about what he did and didn’t like about a handful of pieces. It was really helpful to actually go through and get pretty specific — “This one is too busy on top; this is a nice color, this one looks like a tank top.”
As we’re finishing up, and I’m mentally picking things out to buy, my fiancé wanders off for three seconds and comes back with a horrified, almost frightened look on his face.
“There’s a woman walking around in her bra!”
I turn in complete disbelief. There, between the Calvin Klein and Wonderbras, a woman has pulled her tank top down around her waist and is walking around in a freaking bra! I can’t help myself, I stare at her as she walks across the department, for a good 30 seconds. As we’re walking out of the department, we make eye contact with the poor sales woman who looks completely mortified. With an exchanged glance of horror, mixed with a bit of amusement, we walk out.
Shopping for lingerie shouldn’t be THAT eventful.

Between college and moving to New York City I spent the winter holiday working at the Victoria's Secret in the Mall of NH. During that 10 weeks I saw a lot of women and fitted them with a lot of bras. However, there was one woman in particular who tried on a two piece set, string bikini bottom and corset top with balconet style bra. She actually physically pulled me into her dressing room while she was trying the lingerie on. She had many questions and insecurities. She confessed to having a child a few months previous and I think was still dealing with all the changes her body was going through. She pretty much locked me in her dressing room for nearly 10 minutes.
