Dietribe: Reporting Back

November 17, 2009 by Anne Houseman 3 Comments

Last week, I vowed to stop denying things (what I won’t do), and instead, I would start focusing on what I would do to help live a healthier lifestyle.  I also vowed to report my progress to you honestly. As a refresher, here were my original goals:

  • I’m going to eat five fruits and vegetables a day at least three days
  • I will exercise to a DVD for 30 minutes at least two times
  • I will walk one mile at lunch once
  • Each day, I will spend at least 30 minutes doing something that helps me unwind and limit stress (TV doesn’t count)

Almost on target!

Close to on target

So how did I do? Well, I made every one of those goals except one; I only exercised to a DVD once this past week. However, it was quite easy to make sure I got in all the fruits and veggies, and I was surprised how easy it was to find I could read or take a bath to unwind and release the tensions of the day. However, I had to really force myself to break away at lunch and take a true walk (stopping at the place next door for pizza doesn’t count).

All in all, I feel like I made progress. I made mini goals, and for the most part, stuck to them. And believe it or not, these small changes made me feel accomplished, happier and a little less stressed. So guess what? I’ll be making another set of mini goals this week. This time, I’m not going to bore you with the details (unless you really want to know), because I don’t think you all want to read a checklist each week.  But this exercise reminded me that milestones — no matter how small they seem — can make a big impact over time.

Or maybe you need a challenger. Someone to race against.

Is that a challenge? I like to think of this as a journey, but buddy support is always a good thing!
