Dietribe: Staying on Track During Vacation

The title of today’s column suggests that I’m on vacation (I am), but it also may suggest that I’m staying on track with healthy habits (I’m not).

raindropsRemember my issue with the weather?  Well for some reason, the Mother Nature overlooking the Outer Banks in North Carolina decided that this week is the perfect time to play “monsoon.”  Ergo, several tacos, pork butt sandwiches, slices of pizza and bowls of chips later, I’m feeling like monsoon floods would have to sweep me away just to get me up the three flights of stairs to our bedroom.

But instead of crying over spilled milk, I’m going to take the next four days here (forecast — rain, rain, rain, rain) and spend that time enjoying the company of our old college friends who we are vacationing with.  Plus, now that I know I’ll have lots of indoor time, I can take advantage of the four fitness DVDs I had the foresight to pack. After a healthy workout, I can wind down in the hot tub and then catch up on some much-needed sleep.

And if the sun happens to peek out, I’ll be ready and waiting, fruit salad in hand.
