Anne’s Mortifying Makeup Moment

When I awoke with a start yesterday morning and saw the bright, red digital clock numbers read 6:20 a.m., I flew out of bed in sheer panic. You see, my flight was leaving at 7:10 a.m. — my flight to an extremely important PR client meeting – and the airport is a good 30 minutes away, provided there is absolutely no traffic…in Boston.

Crud. (The real word I was ranting repeatedly is not fit to print.)

Needless to say, I had little time to worry about my beauty ritual.  My main concern was making that flight.  But amidst the chaos (“Honey, wake up, get dressed – we have to leave N-O-W!”), I had the presence of mind to hurl my makeup bag into my purse.

From some stroke of luck, I made my flight.  In fact, it was delayed 10 minutes.  So I had a little time to try to make myself look presentable, but I couldn’t stray too far to a bathroom in case they decided to board early.  So there I sat, in the airport terminal, hurriedly applying mineral foundation, eye shadow and blush, out in the open for the world to see.

Tacky, I know.  But at the time, the necessity of the situation outweighed the mortification factor.

Afterward, did I look my best? Not even close. But believe me – it certainly helped. And in the end, I got to the client meeting on time, everything went smoothly, and no one was the wiser.  But I still can’t help but pray that I never again run into any of the people sitting across from me in that terminal.

What about you?  Were you ever forced to make a “beauty faux pas?”  Have you had your own mortifying makeup moment?  Or do you think that applying makeup in public isn’t a big deal?  Tell me in the comments below!
