Put the Lime in the Coconut

I’m all for going green. In fact, I’m a huge fan of going green. I drink from a water bottle, I shop with a cloth bag, and I try my hardest to buy green beauty products.

This being said, I’ve found that sometimes going green is not worth the price of beauty.

It’s a well-known fact here at BX that I am a huge fan of the scent of coconut. My favorite fragrance, Hidden Cove, has a coconut element to it and it reminds me summer, sunscreen, and carefree days. Ok – enough of the sap.

So I was absolutely beyond excited when I discovered Organix Nourishing Coconut Shampoo and Conditioner. (And by discover I mean I smelled my roommate’s and decided to buy one of my own.) coconut-shampcond

Every time I showered the bathroom smelled like heaven, or at least what I envision heaven to smell like. I’m pretty sure my hair smelled good too, although it didn’t have as strong of an aroma as I was used too with other brands.

However, after a month of use I was about done with it. Not because of the smell, I could easily see myself trying to huff the stuff, but because it wasn’t doing anything spectacular to my hair. The shampoo was great, my hair felt thoroughly clean. However, I expect conditioner to be amazing. Perhaps my expectations are too high? This would explain a lot of things in my life…

But this time I think I am onto something. I found myself using large amounts of conditioner just to make sure all my hair got some of the lovin’ since it didn’t spread well or have a good consistency. Post-shower my hair didn’t feel soft or silky or smooth. In fact, it felt more dry than it did before my little experiment.

So while I love the fact that the products are au natural, I need something that is actually going to work with my hair and so far…no dice.

Anyone have any suggestions for a great organic, coconut-based shampoo? If so, spread the love. Until then I’ll just keep the bottles to smell on a lonely Friday night.

I've used this shampoo and condition before. I liked that it was "green" and that it didn't have all the chemicals and crap in typical shampoos/conditioners that are oh so bad for your body. I guess i look at it as "what ISNT going to do to my hair (and body)" then what it WILL DO for my hair/body. all in all its about the long run for me… how to limit the toxins i put into my body now so i can see results down the road!
