To Carmex or not to Carmex?

Lips Beware

Lips Beware

Ah, the famous yellow-tube. As you obviously know, I have listed Carmex in my beauty faves. It goes on smooth, creates a clean shine (none of that rose tinted business), and gives that tingly, cooling sensation.

However, it has been brought to my attention that “Carmex is bad for you.” Hold up. Like, it’s “going to kill me” bad for you? No. “It’s going to cause herpes-like sores to pop up?” No. “It’s going to make my entire lips peel off?” Not quite.

I get the buzz about Carmex “being bad for you.” It contains .4% Phenol - a chemical used mainly to kill bacteria and prevent infections such as cold sores. It can be considered “harsh” and “addictive” to many, but it isn’t something to entirely keep away from.

Like everything else in the world, Carmex is best used in moderation. Using it several times a day, every day, every month of every year is probably not too good for you (very few things are). However, is it a great product for severely chapped lips…again in moderation…and also great for cold sores or for helping keep lips moisturized when wearing dehydrating lip glosses. Not to mention, I enjoy the consistency it creates when combined with other lip glosses.

So yes, beware of Carmex (and herpes and lips peeling off in general), but don’t discount it.

Carmex is like a new relationship – enjoy the time spent together but don’t over indulge – leave something to look forward to.

Damn, I was hoping it would give me herpes.
