WTF of the Week: Bird Poop Facial at Shizuka New York Day Spa

Keep one handy for free treatments!

Last March, I was nailed in the face with slimy bird poo while traveling at high speeds on a motorboat in Belize.  As you can imagine, after recoiling, I frantically wiped it off as quickly as possible and tried not to lose my lunch (yes, some of it made its way into my mouth). But perhaps I should have let the droppings remain, since some women in NYC are paying big bucks to get professionally shitfaced with bird droppings at Shizuka New York Day Spa.

In this premium fecal facial ($180 for 60 minutes), customers are treated to a slathering of uguisu no fun (powdered nightingale droppings), which the spa purports can “brighten, heal and retexturize the skin due to their natural enzymes and guanine, which imparts a pearly luster to the skin.” The concoction is mixed with Japanese rice bran to provide further exfoliating benefits, and the treatment is topped off with a camelia oil facial massage and a Green Tea collagen mask. Technically, this bird poop package is called “The Geisha Facial,” as the Shizuka spa claims that using nightingale droppings in skin care treatments is an “ancient and prized Geisha beauty secret.”

Ancient beauty secret or no, you won’t be catching me getting a fecal matter facial anytime soon – even if it would make my skin look porcelain and clear. Guess I’m just a party pooper.
