WTF of the Week: Margaux Lange Jewelry Made of Barbie Parts

Would you wear Barbie's ears on your ears?
Would you wear Barbie’s ears on your ears?

As children, many of us cherished our Barbies and spent hours combing her hair and changing her clothes (she had to look great for her date with Ken, after all).  And some girls spent just as much time giving Barbie a “haircut,” along with other meticulous acts of mutilation and dismemberment (pulling her arms out of her sockets and popping them back was a source of much enjoyment). It seems jewelry-maker Margaux Lange was a member of the latter camp, since as an adult, she transforms the plastic princess into “wearable works of art.” In other words, she hacks Barbie up into numerous parts and creates jewelry out of them.

According to her website, Margaux enjoys “the funny juxtaposition of wearing the body, on the body.” But to us, wearing earrings made of Barbie’s ears just feels creepy.  Judge for yourself.  Below is a small sampling of Margaux Lange’s “unique handcrafted jewelry.” You can view her full portfolio at the Margaux Lange website, and if dismemberment-inspired jewelry suits your fancy, you can purchase select pieces at the Margaux Lange Etsy shop.
