WTF of the Week: Reid Peppard Taxidermy Fashion Accessories

Nothing says “high fashion” like a deceased rodent hanging from your wrist — at least according to Reid Peppard, the mastermind behind fashion accessories brand RP/Encore, anyway. The California native turned London dumpster diver works taxidermy magic to create accessories from vermin including pigeons, rats, mice and guinea pigs. From pigeon wing hair combs to small rat and mouse cufflinks, there’s something for both the guys and gals in your life (do I hear Christmas presents?).

But exactly how does Reid acquire her “subjects?”  Here’s an excerpt from a recent post on the Reid Peppard blog:

“I found this pigeon across the street from the main entrance to the National Portrait Gallery. It was in beautiful shape… it must have flown into the window of the Nat West building, and broken it’s [sic] neck…That area gets lots of foot traffic and tourism, so I had to act fast…”

The RP/Encore website notes that every effort is taken to ensure the creatures used are “victims of road kill, pest control or natural death,” except in the case of “the occasional feeder rat (a rat that is bred and killed for the sole purpose of feeding snakes).”  And of course, Reid Peppard and her crew are currently seeking sources for organic leather, silver and gold – because her fashions are all about being natural and environmentally responsible, right?

Whether or not you’re pining for a pigeon wing headband yourself, below you can peruse through more of Reid’s ravishing rodent accessories.
