After a long day, sometimes a girl just wants to kick back with a drink in hand, whether it’s a sophisticated glass of chardonnay, a fancy mixed drink, a strong shot of tequila or a simple brewsky. To get the party started without the risk of a next-day hangover (physical or moral), BX helps you pick your poison in a five-part series featuring our favorite alcohol-inspired beauty products that get you punch drunk pretty.
This week, we put on our beer goggles and ogle beer-inspired beauty products.
- When it comes to recognizing a good beer, it’s all about good head (we’re talking about foam – what were you thinking?). Lather up a rich, sudsy foam with Irish Beer Soap from Etsy shop Angie’s Suds ‘N’ Such ($5.00). This home brew is handmade using Killian’s Irish Red in place of water. And don’t worry – you won’t end up smelling like a stale bar afterward – this soap has a pleasing, subtle, sweet smell.
- Looking for a full-bodied brew? Try Cynthia Silvia Stout Shampoo by Lush ($8.75 for 3.3 oz.). This ale-based concoction is made from a special recipe using organic Irish stout and lemons, and it promises to add weight to hair, smooth cuticles and give an amazing shine. But does it deliver? No skunk brew here — true to its promise, this Lush shampoo gives even fine hair a beautiful, shiny, voluminous ‘do.
- Sometimes, there’s nothing like kicking back with a real cold one – literally! Mom told us years ago that lathering up with the real deal can help boost volume and get rid of any residue. Just pour out a brewsky of your choice onto your hair, rinse and repeat (even if the “repeat” is actually downing the second one). Does it work? Well, the jury’s out – but we know our hair felt more voluminous anyway!
