Walk into any fast food restaurant, and chances are you’ll see a dollar menu. What about those of us who would rather put our money where our face is? Whether you are fickle or frugal, e.l.f. cosmetics (eyes, lips, face) offers a whole palette of fab finds for just one dollar.
Wait, as in one dollar – four quarters – one dollar? Anyone can afford that – even a girl who recently stood in a line at Macy’s 50 people deep to get some free Lancôme mascara (FYI totally worth it)!Products priced at one dollar range from eye shadow, eye liner, and mascara, to lip gloss, powder, and nail polish. Have a bigger appetite? Try lip gloss and brush sets for less than $10.
So what’s the catch? From our accounts, it seems there isn’t one. The full-size products are sold online at www.eyeslipsface.com, though they’re also available in select Target stores. Online orders under $75 have shipping charges, but e.l.f. runs promotions frequently through its newsletter, which often make up for the cost. To keep costs as low as possible, the company has a “no returns” policy, but for a buck, how can you go wrong?
So the next time you’re standing in line for those french fries, think twice…would you rather wear your dollar on your e.l.f. – or on your b.u.m.?
They only cost $1, but do they work?
The BX staff reports on a few e.l.f. items:
Plumping Lip Glaze in Fire Coral - Ollie O.: It’s a cute, wearable, glossy shade. It doesn’t actually plump your lips, but let’s be honest – do any glosses really do that? But it does make your lips feel like they’ve been plumped (ouch!).
Hypershine Gloss in Vixen - Anne Houseman: This is a rare find! Glossy – but not too sticky – and it tastes great. I’d wear this color all summer long…great. Now I’m just thinking about summer.
Eye Makeup Remover Pads - Kristin: They definitely get the job done, even on stubborn eye makeup. But contact-wearers beware – they leave a soapy residue that doesn’t easily wipe off, and it can get in your eyes and sting.
e.l.f. Professional Complete Set of 12 Brushes – Anne Houseman: Hands down the softest brushes I’ve had. Not sure I’ll use all of them, but worth getting the whole kit just in case…you never know.Brightening Eyeliner in Plum – Kristin: First, it’s more of a brown than plum. But the worst part is that it’s impossible to apply. You have to push really hard to get even a trace amount of color.
The verdict? Decent quality makeup (especially for the price!), and a great way to try out colors and products you’ve been hesitant about.
