I always wanted to be a model and one day I made friends with a man named Antonio who was a professional photographer and artist. His artistic photography stunned me. It was beautiful. All his models had sparkling eyes and creamy coco skin with a golden tint. As I commented notably on every picture in his collection, he offered me the opportunity to work with him on his next shoots. I agreed immediately. As soon as I got home I started searching the net for San Francisco's best tanning saloons. Not only was I searching for the perfect tan, but also some places with reasonable prices. I read the reviews on some that I found interesting, then made my choice. There weren't as many reviews on my choice but the ones that were there were excellent. The prices looked just about right too. When I got there I was greeted by friendly young man with a slight tan on him. The place was kind of small but still had a good vibe to it, and I noticed I was the only one there. He led me to a room where I laid down in under a UV Bed. When I got out my skin looked a little reddish, barely at all different from the color I went in with. I wanted BIG, noticeable… I was thinking "sex symbol", so I insisted he let me do the spray tan after my skin would cool a little. When I was done with that I took a look in the mirror and my jaw instantly dropped. I looked amazing! My skin looked just like I wanted. Creamy, golden, gleaming, smooth, and classic. Eagerly looking at the cracks of light through the curtains, I finally stepped outside. Ready to show the world my new look. Instantly, I was blinded by the light outside and then, I saw something horrible. Something that made me want to resort to life as a cave woman and live in isolation forevermore. My skin was orange, no less orange than an orange itself. I realized there was no turning back so I tried calming myself down by telling myself things like "Nah, it's just the light", "In a couple hours the color will cool down", and "It's just different, it's not bad, I'm not used to it yet.." Deep inside I knew all that was garbage. I looked like a carrot, and soon I began to feel like one too. On my way home I took the bus and got stared at. One girl went so far as to blatantly yell out, "Gir you're like orange!" I was so embarrassed. It had been a horrible day. As I sat in front of the mirror desperately, my phone rang. It was Antonio. My jaw dropped again. In a moment of such shock and so little time for logical thought, I agreed to doing the shoot. I proceeded to try to cool myself down with previous garbage. When the shoot came I was still orange. I was so glad when it was over. It was SUCH an embarrassing experience. When I saw the pictures, right away I wished I would've pursued my first idea of becoming a cave woman. I looked like a nervous orange wreck. Every single picture. Antonio never called again, and neither did I. That was the end of my "modeling" career, and boy, did my ego go down.
& that was my nightmare,
Sincerely,
Karina!
My most tramautic self-tanning experience was before my best friend's wedding when I first started self-tanning. I had been at the beach recently and I had tan lines. The bridesmaids dress for the wedding was strapless, so I felt that this was the perfect opportunity to try my new self-tanner. I very carefully applied my self-tanner where my tan lines were. I stayed very still while it dried and thought I had done the right thing. Unfortunately, at this point, I did not understand the concept of blending. Needless to say, I was the only bridesmaid with reverse tan lines.
I have to say that my most traumatic self-tanner experience really isn't anything we all haven't experienced before. It just embarrassed me. I once had a date with this really hot amazing guy, It was, if I remember correctly a Saturday night in early August long before I was married. I had really wanted to go out with this guy and when he finally asked me to go out for dinner I was so excited. He asked me a week in advance because we couldn't coordinate our schedules to get together sooner so I knew I had a week to get myself spiffed up for the date. So since I was working full time and getting real sun was not going to happen for that whole week I used a self tanner. Well, long story short, I had great color, no complaints there. I didn't turn orange, I didn't streak or anything like that. But what I didn't realize, was how bad my skin smelled. I guess I had gotten so used to it, it didn't bother me as much as perhaps someone who had never smelled the after effects of self tanner before, and some apparently like mine, can be nasty, lol! So, we have a nice dinner on our date, and again long story short, when the night was over and he leaned in to give me a nice goodnight kiss, he said, what the H**L is that awful smell, I have been smelling it all night! I was mortified beyond belief, I thought I had died, I was so embarrassed. I had put cologne on before we went out but apparently it had worn off and all "he" could smell was my fake tan, yikes! Okay, so now you know! Thanks for letting me share it with you all.
God, right before my wedding I got a spray tanner from a drug store nd tried to use it, I am VERY pale so it ended up making me orange and blotchy- it was horrible, I ended up getting the alteration lady throw together some sleves for my dress to match (like a see through white tulle) you couldn't tell unless you saw my hands- i cried and cried!!
thanks so much for the chance to win this!
I always use bronzer/self-tanner in the summer. Once I got caught in a rainstorm and it all melted onto my white shoes. Gross!
I went to a big parade and when I got home I saw that there were long drips down the back of both of my legs.
Well, I was young and averse to reading directions, so I didn't know you were supposed to wash your hands after putting the bottle tan on the bod. My hands were tan for quite a while…
I've never tried one before so I don't have a story to tell. I would like to try though
I added iodine to baby oil and laid out in the sun. All I did was burn.
i tried self tanner once and looked like an oompa loompa that was it for me
My friend did it about 10 yrs ago back in high school… she turned ORANGE and had so many SPOTS all over her body!!
~Especially her face and arms~
Poor Paige!
I didn't wear any Thursday and niw have dead skin on both shoulders with a weird mark on my chest.
My most traumatic self-tanner experience was when I used too much product and my hands turned orange. =0(
I ended up with orange knees, elbow, and hands.
I got one that not only turned me orange but broke me out in hives. I was an itchy mess.
I applied a self tanner to my face and I looked like someone from another
planet when it set in.My face looked like the sunset
I did what everyone did when self tanners first came on the market. I managed to turn myself bright orange the night I was going out on a big date. It was pretty mortifying to say the least.
i was going to a party where this guy I liked was going to be so I had my sister apply self tanning to me, all over. Checked it out thought I looked good and decided to go to bed. Got up the next day took a shower lazed around till it was time to get ready for the party. I put on a cute outfit went to pick up my friend, thinking I looked hot and tanned. When come to find out I was so splotchy and orange tinted I couldn't leave the house for more than a week. Never did try that again.
My girlfriend did self tanning for the first time. We woke up the next morning and the sheets were covered with orange dye and I had spots of the tanning stuff on me.
My worst story was not realizing I had missed huge parts on my back. So I went out in my swimsuit and everyone starting laughing and I looked in the mirror and I had huge gaps in where the tanning was and wasn't including finger marks from where I had tried to spread it out on my back.
I never used any before and thought I had to put it on really thick and I was looking like a pumpkin!
I had never tanned before and used a product that turned me orange! I had to go to class like that. Good times, good times.
nice!
My worst tanning experience was actually in a tanning bed and not sunless tanning. I was 14 and the gym I went to had a tanning bed in the women's locker room. I had never done tanning before but it was the "cool" thing to do when I was that age. I'm blond hair and blue eyed and had almost no color to my skin. The kid that was running the front desk at the gym and she didn't know how long it should be set for. So we decided that 20 minutes sounded about right. In reality I should have been in for 3-4 minutes tops, I got so hot I ended up coming out after about 12 minutes but by then it was too late. I got so badly burned I had to go to the ER. That was the end of my tanning forays. So now I just use self tanner!
