Dear BX,
I’m stuck in a rut. Its almost spring but I need to pep myself up a bit with my makeup and skin care. Got any new beauty suggestions?
-Jennifer G.
There’s nothing like feeling stagnant under a pile of winter sweaters and dead skin cells, is there, Jennifer? The good news is that spring is already starting to peek through, and a new beauty haul might be just what the doctor ordered for a new look and a mood lift. But where should you start? At BX, we’ve had the pleasure of testing some great new products for spring 2010, so why not try one of our top three picks?
1. Dr.Hauschka Summer Impressions Bronzing Fluid
Bronze away a pasty pallor the safe and natural way with the new Dr.Hauschka Bronzing Fluid, available May 1. As the highlight of the new Dr.Hauschka limited-edition Summer Impressions collection, the Bronzing Fluid comes in two shimmering, translucent colors, 01 (beige) and 02 (bronze) to give a subtle, warm glow to any skin hue. Just a little bit of this bronzer goes a long way, and you can also mix it with your favorite moisturizer, though you don’t really need to since it’s made with antioxidant rich pomegranate extract and nourishing oils of coconut, shea butter and macadamia. The price tag of $36.95 is well worth the value; after all, can you really put a price tag on all the compliments you’ll get for your newly-glowing skin?
2. Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Extreme Foundation
Give your face a “lift” with Estee Lauder’s new Resilience Lift Extreme Radiant Lifting Makeup SPF 15 ($36.50). Packed with the latest anti-aging ingredients from the Estee Lauder laboratory, this foundation doubles as a skin care product in disguise, made with mature skin in mind. This smooth operator glides on easily and has a super-silky finish that’s hard to beat given the level of coverage it provides. We found that you can get lighter coverage by spreading just one pump over your entire face (yes, just one small pump spreads out all over!), but if you dab more on trouble spots, it conceals nicely without looking caked on. That’s probably due to the product’s new oil-in-water formulation featuring “advanced time-release hydration technology” and hyaluronic acid. No matter what’s behind this miracle foundation’s secret, we just know it didn’t settle into our fine lines or appear flaky on our dry skin, an all-too-common occurrence. Instead, we just saw radiance.
3. Shiseido Bio-Performance Super Corrective Serum
If your skin needs a little boost itself, look no further. Shiseido just introduced a skin regenerating serum that’s bound to get your aging skin gleaming in no time — in one day, according to the brand. We tested out the new Shiseido Bio-Performance Super Corrective Serum ($80) ourselves to see if we noticed an immediate difference from the serum’s “Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF),” which purportedly increases production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Guess what? It works. While it’s not going to remove all your wrinkles, it definitely refines pores, makes your skin feel velvety-smooth and speeds up cell generation, evidenced by the fine dusting of dead skin cells that brushed off after the first use. While a pump-ful is sparse, you can make the serum go further by spreading it on immediately after your toner. So get pumped!
