Q&A with Fashion Designer Rachel Roy

We were lucky enough to get a chance to meet with renowned fashion designer Rachel Roy while she made an appearance at the Macy’s at Tysons Galleria in McLean, VA, this past Saturday the 22nd. Rachel, herself, was absolutely gorgeous and incredibly kind to all of her fans that showed up for autographs and a chance to check out her RACHEL by Rachel Roy Spring Collection. She even had her adorable daughter Ava by her side.

Her new collection was a playful mix of patterns and colors that harmonized into elegant, fun pieces like this one:

At the event, we ogled her gorgeous, yet affordable, collection donned by living-mannequin models who sweetly posed for all the guests. Check out these beautifully-bedecked ladies.

We were also fortunate enough to speak with Rachel herself to find out what makes her tick.

BX: What inspired your Spring collection?

Rachel Roy: Tie-dyes, an island feel, Africa and girls from London and Japan inspired me. I always try to add a metropolitan feel to my inspirations so they don’t turn out costume-y.

BX: What is your absolute favorite piece of all time?

Rachel: I love trench coats. I use them as dresses with a belt when I am working or out to dinner. They just always make me feel slimmer.

BX: What is your favorite piece in your own clothing collection?

Rachel: I don’t get attached to clothing, since I know how easily they come and go. I know everything can be replaced, but I do have pieces that I would be disappointed if I lost. Clothing should make one feel better about oneself, not be the end all be all.

The RACHEL Rachel Roy Spring 2010 collection retails from $59 to $299 for sportswear; $79 – $199 for footwear; $69 – $109 for handbags and $40 – $195 for jewelry. Visit the Rachel Roy website to learn more and shop the full RRR collection.
