Season Staple: Nudes

With half the country covered in snow and the Winter Olympics dominating our prime time television, musing over flirty spring fashions certainly doesn’t hurt. Before we know it, we’ll be trading in snoods for strappy sandals and fur for florals. This season, though, we’re not only losing layers when the weather warms — we’re going nude.

When it comes to your classic spring ensemble, surely a pastel sundress or capri pant will do, but a nude number is the ultimate trendy and traditional piece. The natural tone automatically gives your look the essence of spring style (weightless and clean) and incredible versatility when it comes to cuts (strapless and wrap) and accoutrements (baubles and bangles). For those with dark or tan skin, a nude is a no brainer, as any shade will do you proper justice. If you fall on the lighter side of the spectrum, a nude can definitely still work, just be sure to pick one with contrast so you don’t get washed out.

As far as footwear is concerned, nudes in any tone can be everyone’s most fabulous spring accessory. While you should avoid the curse of matchy-matchy and stay clear of an entirely nude outfit, nude footwear works well with just about every other color under the sun. If you have a formal affair and can’t do without an LBD for the occasion, a sky-high nude heel can be the ultimate feminine detail. A nude pump or wedge can also tone down a super sexy look. A peasant top with fitted denim shorts will be a lot more sweet and a lot less sour with a natural-colored shoe of any height.
