At age 14, Ava Anderson set out to solve a problem that many Skin Deep users and consumers of organic products have noticed. Why is it that products labeled “all-natural” and “organic” still contain toxic ingredients and chemicals? Why do products that are rated as ones and twos on Skin Deep still pose serious hazards to our health?
When Ava saw this report on the dangers that ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products pose to teens, she was moved enough to create her own product line, known as Ava Anderson Non-Toxic, that would provide the women in her life – whose products she had thrown away due to their dangerous ingredients – with safer beauty alternatives.
With the help of a family friend, Ava was able to oversee the production and approve the formulation of her new product line. On the label of each product is a comprehensive ingredients list in large print so that nothing about the product remains a mystery. According to her website, Ava has created the first full skin care line that can boast all zero ratings on Skin Deep.
After testing the cleanser, toner and moisturizer from the skin care line, I can attest that the products are excellent. With ingredient like citrus oil and flower extract, each product left my skin smelling fruity and flowery, and I don’t think my face has ever been smoother. The cleanser is an efficient way to remove any makeup I’ve used throughout the day, and the moisturizer leaves my skin soft and supple without leaving a greasy residue.
The only product I had slight problems with was the toner. It comes in a spray bottle, which I had never encountered before, and there were no instructions for its use printed on the back. After visiting the the online product listing, I learned the best application method was to close my eyes and spray the toner directly on my face. In fact, there are no instruction on the back of the moisturizer and cleanser, so the best way to find each item’s instructions for use is to visit the website.
Ava’s line, which includes cosmetics such as lip colors, foundation and blush in addition to the skin care line, can be purchased through her web site, avaandersonnontoxic.com. Prices of individual products range from $8.95 for lip glosses to $36.50 for the foundations. Most items in the skin care line retail for approximately $20. Fans of Ava’s products can also set up their own business selling the skin care products and cosmetics here.
