Poolside is China Glaze’s first summer collection for the year, packed with bright neon hues in six shades. Neons are notoriously tricky to apply, but China Glaze has clearly worked on their formula with the Poolside collection, and application is not too difficult. All the colors are very opaque, but have thin formulations, meaning thinly applied layers is key.
Here are the eye-popping shades of China Glaze Summer 2010’s Poolside Collection:
Looking for a gorgeous hot pink? Pool Party is your answer. After two (slightly thicker) coats, it was smooth and completely opaque.
Flip Flop Fantasy is a neon pinkish-coral. I wore this one to work and got quite a few compliments on it — it would look even better on someone tan!
Sun Worshipper is a gorgeous yellowy-orange. It’s a very warm, glowing color — and kind of reminds me of the macaroni and cheese crayon from the Crayola Big Box (in a good way!!)
Highlighter yellow would be the best way to describe Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, the trickiest to apply of the bunch. The polish is very sheer, and will take four to five thin coats to get even, opaque coverage. This one is REALLY bright!
Kiwi Cool-Ada is a lighter-toned neon green. It too gave us some difficulty in application, though three to four coats should be enough for perfectly polished, albeit shocking, green nails.
My favorite of the bunch aside from Flip Flop Fantasy is probably this eye-popping blue, Towel Boy Toy. This vibrant sky blue is one of the easiest to apply, needing only 2 coats, and has a slight hint of shimmer in the light.
Keep in mind as you paint with these neons that they will tend to dry with a matte finish. If this is the look you are going for, then two to three thin coats should do the trick for most of the polishes. If you are a glossy nail type of girl and want to amp up the shine, make sure to use a good topcoat — but only after your nails are dry!
We suggest Seche Vite’s top coat or Zoya’s Armor top coat – both give high shine and help prevent chipping for days. Zoya’s offering is particularly good at locking down runny formulas, like neons.
