With her short, naturally-blonde hair, Kelly is practically a professional at coloring her hair at home as she grows it out. With previous good luck with Garnier products, she was eager to try the brand’s HerbaShine Ten Minute Hair Color. But did this new quick fix hold up to her past positive experiences, or did it fall flat?
I color my hair at home. Often. This month, I decided to check out the Garnier HerbaShine Ten Minute Hair Color. I selected a level three ash brown, which basically means that it is a really dark, cool brown. It is the same color I have been using for several months. The big difference is the brand.
Depending what is on sale, I tend to bounce back and forth between L’Oreal and Garnier hair color (and sometimes I use Clairol Professional). HerbaShine comes in 18 colors and includes bamboo extract, which is touted to be the next big thing in strengthening products. (It will show up everywhere, mark my words.) The reason I wanted to check it out is because I do like the ease of the 10 minute hair colors and I generally like Garnier hair color. For this color to be successful for me, all it had to do was cover my roots, in the same cool dark brown tone. For the record, my natural hair (which I haven’t seen in forever) is actually blonde.
Here is how it looked after I dyed my hair for the allotted 10 minutes, rinsed, conditioned and styled.
Huge fail. It didn’t cover the roots at all and now I have to dye my hair again in the same month, which I had resolved to stop doing since I am letting it grow.
This really didn’t work for me and for once, I can’t see an upside of trying it. But if you can, tell me in the comments!
I bought this myself. At least it was on sale.

I'm with Sharlynn. I really disliked this color. If you are dying your hair at home, I am loving the Foam Hair Color.
Garnier '10 min' haircolor is a total disappointment. Since Revlon's 10 min color does really work I assumed Garnier's would too. My dark brown roots were barely a medium brown and I had re-color my roots all over again to get it blonde. A total waste of money, time and effort. I guess its just a gimmick they use to sell this. The worst part is afterwards I realized I made this same mistake with Garnier's 10 before, about 4 months ago. I will just now remember to not use any Garnier hair color products from now on.
Review:
I have just dyed my hair with Herbashine 810, medium ash blond, and got a disasterous results. My previouslu nice blond hair, almost the same as on the photo of the 810 box became unnatural dark grayish black, not a shade of any blond in it. I called the customer service and they tried to convince me that it is because my hair was fine and porous and it will fade after 28 days. Come on, I have been dyeing my hair for 30 years with all the possible hair colours and nothing like this happenned ever. I should have gone to the internet before and read the rewievs. It seems they have problems with the blond colours, and they are always with a lower price for a quick sale, but Clariol wouldn't withdrow them, they don't want to lose a penny from them. That's a very, very bad policy. Don't use the blond colours (I don't know about the others). CLARIOL, SHAME ON YOU!

Kelly,
If you allow the 10minute color develop for the full 30 minutes you should get the desired result you want. At the salon, when we develop color for 10 minutes we are performing a process known as breaking the base. Dimension A Salon would be more than glad to help you gain understanding about hair coloring products.
Hi!
I am so glad it is working for you! Everyone's hair is different, so you can't always predict how things will work – especially where color is concerned. It was definitely a fail for me, but others have suggested it worked for them. Clariol has a 10 minute hair dye kit that works really well for me in the past. I believe it is called Perfect 10. I am glad the Herbashine worked for you and that you didn't end up with the same dish water ick hair that I did!
Hi Kelly
I'm actually dying my hair as I type. I'm using Herbashine for the third time. I like it, but I do leave it on my hair for way longer than 10 minutes even though it says no longer than 15. I have 50% gray hair and I find it covers as well as any of the others and lasts just as long – it actually grows out before it wears out. I was looking it up to see if there are any bad things about leaving it on so long and that's how i found your blog. just thought i'd let you know how it's going for me. cheers elizabeth
