Packed with high pigments that are baked into a compact rounded form, the Laura Geller Eye Rimz Duo set ($35.50 from QVC) comes with two complementary shadows: Gold Spell, a glittering olive/bronze, and Potion, a deep purple. The set also includes a custom brush with short, tightly-packed bristles, which is perfect for getting both a tight line or a smudgy effect when used to line eyes. In fact, I’m so in love with this brush, that I ditched my old one and I’m using it with all of my shadows when applying as a liner.
The baked shadows, which are deceivingly swirled mainly with black and white, are designed to accent your eyes with two different looks. When applied dry, they give a smoldering, softer line that can be smudged more. Gold Spell ends up looking olive with a hint of gold flecks in it, while Potion appears a purple charcoal. When applied wet (just run the brush under the tap for a couple of seconds), the shadows take on an entirely different form, creating a stronger, solid metallic line. Gold Spell looks a positively glittering gold, and Potion ends up a bold purple.
As a result, you can really conjure up a lot of looks just using these two shadows (which I swear were made for my greenish eyes in mind). I decided to try a combined look by sweeping Gold Spell dry across my lids and Potion dry into the creases. Then, I wet the brush and created a stronger line with Potion on my top lids and added a glittering line with Gold Spell on my bottom lash line.
I wore this look during the day, so I kept it soft, but you can easily transition to night by building upon the shadows, as they really can be deeply pigmented the more you add on.
So with your eyes ablaze with baked shadow, what’s a sizzling siren to do with her lips? Laura Geller has that covered too with a fabulous mini lip gloss trio $24).
Containing three of the brand’s popular mini Shine & Shield lip glosses, this fabulous trio of pink-hued glosses will protect your lips with SPF 15 and other nourishing ingredients like pomegranate extract and jojoba oil, while adding long-wearing color.
The set comes with three pigmented shades that wear very true to the color they appear in the tube:
Fresco Gelato, a brownish-berry shade
Fresco Berry, a brighter raspberry hue
Fresco Nude, a softer peach/pink color
As a nice subtle complement to my “day shadow” look I created with the Eye Rimz, I wore Fresco Nude, keeping the focus on my eyes.
As hazy summer days turn into smoldering summer nights, these staples by Laura Geller will help you keep your makeup routine simple, but with sizzling results.
