Emerging Winter Trends: Capes!

Capes, ponchos – call them whatever you like, they’re making their grand return for the fall and winter seasons! I can’t personally say that I’m a cape owner just yet, but after browsing through adorable little winter capes on the pages of ASOS, American Apparel and Madewell, that might change quite soon.

While I think that capes are a bold fashion statement, they might not always be the most practical. I feel that if I were to purchase a cape in the near future, I would try and only wear it on the warmer of winter days. Otherwise, I figure my arms would be a bit chilly out there for the cold air to reach. But, if you pair it with a cozy long sleeved shirt and some warm gloves or mittens, perhaps the cape just might be the perfect choice of outerwear.

I do love all the different takes on capes, though.  I must admit that when I saw the first few capes of the season, I thought, how many different kinds of capes can actually be created? It’s a fairly simple concept, how are designers going to differentiate their cape from someone else’s? But yet again, I was really impressed in the different styles: buttons, hoods, zippers, belts…you name it! I think those little accessories really add personality to the clothing and make them unique. I’ve picked out a few of my favorites below-I’m really loving the hooded capes, but check them out and choose your favorite trend!

Readers, what are your opinions on the cape?  Fashion-do or don’t?

I love this trend more than almost anything else recently. I think I've picked up two so far- a light weight and a heavier weight Calvin Klein with a belt. Depending on the cut, they are shockingly flattering on us curvier gals. LOVE IT!
