Tickled Pink: New Estee Lauder Lipstick and Nail Polish Shades

The cherry blossoms are in full swing in D.C., and with even rosier days ahead filled with pastel blooms, I’ve been thinking pink. Apparently, so was Estée Lauder, which recently introduced a few new pink shades to its product palette.

First up, a new limited edition pink shade of Pure Color Lipstick ($24): Pink Lolita.  Described by Estée as a “light warm pink,” this creamy lipstick goes on smooth and opaque, with a strong color payoff.

As you can see, this shade gives your pucker a pop with a bubble-gum bang, so it’s not for the faint-of-heart. But when applied lightly, it can brighten your whole beauty outlook. Stick with just a swipe or two to get the prettiest payoff with this shade, as too thick of a slathering can actually backfire and cause color-pooling in your lip creases. (Hint: Stay oh-so-trendy and pair this shade with a neutral-hued face with black-lined eyes, à la Olivia Munn and Jennifer Hudson.)

If you like your pinks as cool as a cucumber, the shade-stylists at Estée have you covered with Pure Color Lipstick in Candy.

With teeny-tiny flecks of shimmer, this pink lipstick is packed with shine and has a cool blue undertone, making it more on the lavender-pink side. I personally like the way this one applies better than Pink Lolita, as it seems to glide on more smoothly and evenly with a more moisturizing effect (but maybe that’s all in my head because it shines…but I don’t think so).

Here are the two shades swatched side by side:

Since you know I can’t go more than a couple of days without repainting my nails a new color, you can imagine how pumped I was to see a shade of deep, bright pink in the Pure Color Nail Lacquer lineup called Fuchsia Flame ($19).

The opaque cream lacquer applies smoothly and evenly with a wide brush, which I always appreciate since I can get messy around the edges with a regular sized smaller brush. There’s no color pooling, and you can even get away with applying one coat, though I opted for two in the photo above.  The color seems to have a built-in top coat too, since it is high shine on its own, so if you feel like skipping that last step, your digits will still shine like you just had a professional manicure.

With a new rosy outlook thanks to my pink lipstick and nails, I feel ready to take on the schizo weather we’re having here (84 degrees and sunny yesterday, and now monsoon-like and 50s today). Tell me — are you tickled pink by them too? Which is your favorite?
