You know those days when you just stare into your closet for 20 minutes and can’t figure out what to wear? Well I have those days with makeup sometimes too. Luckily, I’ve found that while mac and cheese can make you feel cozy on an off day, LORAC’s Unzipped nude eyeshadow palette does the trick when you just can’t decide what makeup to apply.
The Unzipped collection ($40) features 10 matte and shimmer eyeshadows in various neutral hues, along with a mini Behind the Scenes Eye Primer primer. In my opinion, if you only can get one eyeshadow palette a year, this should be it. It has every neutral hue you could possibly want, ranging from light golds and coppers to warm toffee and deep chocolate plums.
I know some women can’t stand shimmer (though I’m a HUGE fan), and Unzipped has three matte shades (Unspoken, Unconditional and Unbridled) that look great by themselves and/or can be applied in conjunction with shimmer shadows to tone the sparkle down a tad. However, the shimmer shadows alone just look gently sun-kissed and not at all like you’ve had an accident with a glitter glue stick on your eyelids.
The pigments go on very rich and for the most part, the colors stay true to the way they look in the set. In my opinion, the exception is Unbelievable, which seems more rose-gold in the palette, but swipes on to look much more coppery when it’s actually applied. Check out these swatches to see for yourself.
I’ve used various combinations of these eyeshadows, and I never get sick of them. You can stick with the lighter shades for a very neutral look, but if you also throw in the deeper shades like Untamed or Unbridled, you can make a soft, brown-based smokey eye that’s perfect for the office or cocktails.
If you’re looking for the best neutral eyeshadow palette for every day wear, I strongly suggest LORAC’s Unzipped!
