The new bareMinerals Remix collection is in stores for spring 2013.
While many of us are still experiencing a cold snap this winter, makeup brands are already thinking spring. And for bareMinerals, spring 2013 is all about bright, fun, bold makeup.
The new bareMinerals Remix Collection isn’t for those who are shy about color. In fact, even a makeup maven such as myself was a little hesitant when I first saw the new READY Eyeshadow 4.0 quads in “The Wild Thing” and “The Next Big Thing” ($30 each). I was particularly scratching my head at “The Wild Thing,” which looked like it fell straight off of my Barbie’s makeup table circa 1984.
I know from previous experience with bareMinerals READY Eyeshadow that these would be extremely pigmented and silky smooth — great for long-wear, but maybe not so great if you’re trying to mute the colors down for daytime.
How in the world was I supposed to make those colors work without looking like a big old bruise? I did what any big sister would do — I used my younger sister as a guinea pig and set to find out.
My sister is fairly shy about eyeshadow colors that fall outside of neutral or smoky territory, so she was less than thrilled at the prospect of testing out these bold colors. But in the end, we were both pleasantly surprised.
I created this look by sweeping the lightest color in “The Wild Thing” quad (which looks like what I’d imagine a mermaid’s tail looks like in moonlight) all over her lids all the way up to her brow bone. Then, I blended the muted lime green over the whole lid. I used the brown on the outer 3/4 of the lid to create depth, and then I patted on the blue on the outer 1/3 of the lid, blending it up and over into her crease. To make sure everything looked soft and blended, I did a final swipe of the lightest color back over the blue in the crease.
Since the Remix Collection is all about fun, I decided to make my sister’s eyes really POP by taking the blue shadow and using it as a liner for her lower lash rim. Then, I used the bareMinerals Remix Flawless Definition Mascara ($18 each) in Black on her upper eyelashes and in Aqua on her lower eyelashes. We finished off her face color by using the new READY Blush in “The Natural High” ($22) and the new Loud & Clear Lip Sheer in Berry Pink ($15).
In all, I have to say we were both really impressed with the bareMinerals Remix Collection — which just goes to show how important it is to test makeup before automatically dismissing it as something that wouldn’t work for you.
The bareMinerals Remix Collection is available at bareMinerals boutiques, bareMinerals.com, Ulta, select Macy’s, Dillard’s, Nordstrom and other retailers. Let us know if you pick up anything!
