Confessions of a Maxxinista: T.J.Maxx (a Love Story)

Hi. My name is Kristin and I’m a Maxxinista. I go to my local T.J.Maxx once a week on average, and I’ve been to the same T.J.s more than once in a 24-hour time period on several occasions. There are weeks when I peruse T.J.s two, three, four or more times in one week. I know which staffers are the most friendly (and which are a little grumpy) at my local T.J.s, I know when they get in new inventory each week and I have a “route” that I stick to when scoping out deals.

I would estimate that somewhere around 75% of my wardrobe was purchased at T.J.Maxx (or Marshalls – I love them both, but I just happen to live walking distance from a pretty fabulous T.J.s). I know which of the surrounding T.J.s/Marshalls have the best inventory, and I know that while one store can carry the best handbag selection, another store a few miles away can carry a slightly more fabulous shoe selection. There are many days when my whole outfit (save for maybe my undies) have been from T.J.s, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Obviously I’m not ashamed, if I were I wouldn’t be rambling on like a crazy person on the interwebs. Don’t worry, I know that this post makes me sound like a raving lunatic.

When I preach my T.J.s gospel, which I often do, I run into two types of people: people who love it as much (ok, that might not be possible since I’m obsessed) as I do and people who don’t get the point. This second group of people always claims to have no luck finding anything worthwhile in store, and I weep openly for them. Just kidding, I weep on the inside and try to convert them on the spot.

I will admit, though, that T.J.s isn’t for the faint of heart. If you want your options handed to you while out shopping, this isn’t the right place for you. If you can’t stand the hunt, get out of the T.J.s (that’s my best life advice). But, once you see the fruits of your labors (i.e. a finding a Kate Spade skirt that originally cost $240 for $50), it’s easy to get hooked.

If you’ve made it to the end of this post, I applaud you for sticking with me. Just for you, I’ll be posting some of my favorite T.J.Maxx purchases and tips for scoring the best finds at T.J.Maxx in upcoming posts. Make sure to give them a read.

What is the best deal you’ve ever found at T.J.Maxx/Marshalls/Home Goods?
