I’d be lying if I said I was the most fit person out there. At one point in my life, I was. As a competitive gymnast for about 10 years, I worked out constantly. And then I “retired” and went to college … and then got a job … and then got a bit lazy. You know how it goes.
I go through phases when I work out almost every day and phases when I just don’t for months on end. I’m reentering a workout phase and hoping to make it stick this time. I only ever fall out of my routine because of excuses I make for myself, and it’s time to stop making those excuses.
And while sheer motivation is the main driving force behind a constant routine, cute workout wear doesn’t hurt. I don’t know about you, but a new sneaker or a cute performance hoodie inspires me to go to the gym and show off my new outfit … I mean workout.
So this past weekend, I met up with Elissa from Style Wire for a blogger class at Endurance Pilates (more on that here). Before the class, we had a little fun warming up and snapping some pictures of our newest workout wear. It was so fun to catch up, work out together and compare notes on our respective new workout attire.
Oh don’t mind us, we’re just casually sitting in the middle of this parking lot. Nothing to see here. Move along …
Hi there, beauties. March is here, which means a couple of things. For one, Spring is just a couple short weeks away. Second, it’s time for February favorites. Like last month, I don’t have a huge amount of favorites, but I’m going with a zen less-is-more approach to life lately. Ok, that’s a complete lie … I just got back from Sephora with more than I intended to purchase … but I have just been dabbling in a bit of this and a bit of that rather than obsessing over specific products. And with that, let’s gander my monthly favorites and check out the giveaway at the bottom of the post.
Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo – This is not a new favorite. In fact, the first time that I wrote about this amazing product was August 2013. I use it more-or-less on a daily basis. On first-day, second-day and third-day hair. It adds volume and texture to my style in addition to having three other uses. And the fact that it’s only $6 at my local CVS is just the icing on the cake. Just assume that this dry shampoo is a monthly favorite moving forward unless I say otherwise.
L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara – This is a new find rather than a recently re-discovered product. I had heard so many great things about this mascara online, but never got around to purchasing a tube of my own until last month. The first couple of tries were a huge flop and I thought that the hype was all smoke and mirrors. Then, as if by magic, the mascara did wonders for my lashes. They are lengthened, defined and almost look like falsies. Whenever I wear this, I get loads of compliments on my lashes, which is always the true test.
Lumene CC Cream– This isn’t a new product. Like the dry shampoo, I’m bringing it back from the back of my drawers. This Lumene CC cream makes my skin look naturally flawless and dewy. It’s the perfect everyday base for whatever look I am going after. I’m reaching the bottom of my bottle and it’s about time I replenish my stock.
Kate Spade New York ‘Gramercy Grand’ Bracelet Watch – This was a Christmas present from my parents. I had it on my personal Pinterest “wish list” board and they generously nabbed it for me. I squealed when I unwrapped it and put it on my wrist and I haven’t taken it off since. You will have seen it all of my fashion posts here, here and here.
This giveaway is now closed — Oh and another February favorite? Giving back to my readers! This month, I’m running a giveaway for a $50 Sephora gift card so you can treat yourself to some new goodies. Who knows, maybe they’ll be your March favorites. You can enter in the widget below. Good luck to all who enter!
If you know me at all, you know that I’m a self proclaimed Maxxinista. On an average week I can be found at my local store at least once and more often than not I come home with a goodie … or two, or three.
The other week when I was perusing the racks, I was considering how I could seriously use a few more business causal tops. I work in a very casual startup, so there is no real divide between my work and weekend wardrobes. What you see me wearing in my free time is what you also see me wearing during work hours. That is unless you find me at the beach or the gym. But I digress
So as I’m flipping through hangers, I looked across the women’s section and saw the most fabulous blazer/jacket situation on display. (Faux) leather sleeves, tweed body and a peplum waist were calling my name. It’s the perfect jacket to dress up for work or down for a weekend brunch. Naturally, I added to my “yes” pile. And then I glanced to the right a bit more and saw the most adorable blouse with a scalloped hem. I knew instantly that the blouse and jacket would work wonderfully together as well as blend into the rest of my wardrobe seamlessly. We rode off together into the sunset. On and one thing before you bring it up. I know I should have ironed my blouse, but that would require owning one. Moving on.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I won’t be doing anything romantic this Valentine’s Day. I’ll be visiting my grandparents in DC and getting afternoon tea. I mean, if that doesn’t spell HOT, I don’t know what does.
But just because I won’t be with my boyfriend this weekend doesn’t mean I can’t get dressed up in celebration in love. And with that, I wanted to share with you my planned Valentine’s Day OOTD.
Some New Englanders have been itching for a snow day. As far as Winters go, this one has been pretty mild. Sure, there were a few below-zero days, but there have been plenty of days where I’m too toasty after walking more than a few minutes in my coat and scarf. And the icing on the cake, as far as I’m concerned? There has been little-to-no snow. We had flurries here and there, but nothing substantial … until now. It snowed on Saturday this past weekend and it’s set to potentially blizzard this week (when this post goes live).
Don’t get me wrong, I love Winter wear. The hats, coats, scarves and boots all tickle my fancy. I love a bundled look, but I don’t necessarily love the snow that goes with it. I like to wear snow boots because I choose to, not because I have to. Makes total sense, right? Right! Glad we’re on the same page.
This past Sunday, I met up with the lovely Agnes from Spoons and Stilettos for a cup of coffee and outfit photos. It was such a pleasure to meet Agnes, especially since we’re two city bloggers caught in the suburbs 🙂 We might have gotten a few stares from people walking by, but we didn’t let that stop us from capturing our snowy OOTD.
Can you believe we’re just a couple of short weeks to the end of 2014 and the start of 2015? You probably can assuming that you have either a physical or electronic calendar that you can consult. But that’s beside the point.
To ring in 2015 correctly and start the year on a good foot, you’ll need (obviously NEED and not want) to rock a New Year’s Eve outfit that’s as fabulous as you. And plus, if there is one night when no one can mock you (or remember) for wearing a romper, NYE is the night. To help you plan for the midnight countdown, I’ve pulled together three outfit options that could work for (almost) every party.
With a week of December under our belt, holiday party season is in full swing. And with all the festivities comes lots of photo opportunities, which require only the cutest holiday party outfits. Whether you’re attending a casual get-together at a friend’s house or a swanky holiday party, I’ve got you covered with three options.
Believe it or not, I enjoy a good rainy day from time-to-time. It gives me a good excuse to wear oversized sweaters, lay in bed all day (if it’s not a work day) and sport cute rain boots when I finally get out off bed and out the front door.
A cute pair of rain boots can totally change the direction of a rainy day. It can turn my frown upside down and put a little extra pep in my step (pun intended). Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it makes getting around town in a downpour so much easier. Puddle in my way? No problem, I can splash my way through that without soaking my socks. And while I love my riding-boot-inspired rain boots, I had been lusting after a pair of ankle rain booties recently. Something seems so effortless and chic about a short boot that I don’t have to tug over my jeans.
Enter, Swims. The Dora boot was the answer to my rainy prayers. These ankle booties are easy to slip on as I run out the front door and work with almost any outfit I could dream up. Plus, the pop of orange brightens up even the most dreary of days. If I wasn’t trying to save money (ha!) I would seriously consider buying the Dora in all available colors. Let’s be honest, I’m considering it even though I’m trying to save money.
Sadly, it’s only rained twice since these beauties entered my life, but I wore them both days. I was excited enough just knowing I was wearing new rain booties, but it didn’t hurt that I received loads of compliments. Next thing you know, my entire office will be puddle jumping in their own pair of swims.
What footwear do you slip on when the rain starts?
I’m trying to go shopping-free this month. The operative word being “trying.” But just because I’m not whipping out my wallet this month it doesn’t mean that I can’t window shop and lust after a few items. In fact, there are four items I have my eye on at the moment:
It’s my favorite season for fashion – Fall. How can you not just love all the jackets, scarves, sweaters and purses?! Ok, so purses aren’t unique to Fall, but purses are always a good thing.
I’ve only owned two peach purses in my life. Once in 10th grade and once … now. This Robert and Matthew bad boy has become my everyday work bag of the moment. It’s the perfect size and I love that is has a shoulder and cross-body strap. I don’t acknowledge purses without a cross-body option (unless it’s my trusty Lonchamp).

I wouldn’t normally whip out a peach purse after the Summer, but I’m actually kind of loving the unexpected color. It’s a nice contrast to the deeper colors of the rest of my Fall clothing. Plus, I’ve been getting loads on compliments, so I can’t put it away for next Spring/Summer just yet.
