Things have been a bit crazy lately with all the travel for my “real” job, so May slipped through my fingers before I could find the time to write up a favorites post. And considering I’m about to depart on yet another trip (an actual vacation this time) for the next two trips, I won’t have time to do a June favorites before July rolls around. The solution here? A really late May favorites and an early June favorites all rolled in to one. Woop, woop!
Being on the go for the past few months has meant that my makeup routine has been trimmed down. I don’t feel the need to overload my carry-on with excess palettes or break the TSA 3-1-1 rule with multiple liquid foundations.
And when I have been home, I’ve been prepping for vacation with sunless tanner, bright polish and burn-free skin. And now that I’ve rambled for long enough, let’s get to the main event … my current beauty faves.
I’m weird about Valentine’s Day. I don’t care about it from a romantic sense (my boyfriend and I never do too much) but I love the holiday. I love all of the red, pink and roses that Valentine’s Day entails. If I could, I would make everyone at work make DIY mailboxes for Valentine’s cards like we did back in elementary school. I hope that wasn’t just my school, because if so, the rest of you really missed out. And of course, I love the chocolate. Wait, did I just say that? No way would I be sneaking some extra Hershey kisses ….
Any who, since my boyfriend and I don’t typically do anything fancy on Vday (one year we were on a juice cleanse so we drank matching red juices … hot), I don’t got too crazy with my hair and makeup. Well not any more crazy than any other standard day. But one thing I always do is whip out a seasonally-appropriate polish for a Valentine’s Dat manicure and pedicure.
Sure, there is over a week until Valentine’s Day, but I actually painted my nails last night. What can I say, I’m perpetually early to appointments and holidays. I decided on a barbie pink for my fingers and a classic red for my toes – essie in Madison Ave-hue and CoverGirl in Lasting Love. Nothing crazy here, just classic colors to celebrate the day of love. Now excuse me while I search for that chocolate.
How are you prepping for Valentine’s Day? Are you a pink and red girl or is black more your speed this month?
Another month, another GlossyBox. I was mourning the ending of Christmas cheer and opening presents (let’s just be honest) when I opened my front door to find the most festive GLOSSYBOX on my front stoop. It was a lovely surprise and I couldn’t wait to see what was inside. So without further ado, here is what I unwrapped:
With a few solid holiday gift guides under our belts this year, I figured it was time to whip out the big guns. The roundup of what’s on my fellow bloggers’ wish lists. There are some really fabulous goodies on this list, so prepare your wallets! And after this is you want to do some more damage, check out the skin care, makeup, hair tools and nail polish gift guides.
“A sequel to the best neutral palette ever (Nude’Tude), the Nude’Dude palette comes in equally cute packaging, with equally versatile, velvety eyeshadows that have great pigmentation and formula. This time, you don’t just have brown-based neutrals or the basic plain black or white (hurrah!), but rosy gold and purple-gold eyeshadows in the mix. Plus, there is a free Body Builder mascara with the set. What’s not to love?” – Renu Nathan of My Beauty Junction
“Some of my brushes are getting to the point where they need to be replaced and I absolute love Sigma Brushes. This kit is like the best of all of their brushes. There are 12 brushes in the kit and they have every thing from eyeliner brush to a large powder brush. I just NEED this kit to do a massive brush overhaul instead of replacing the couple brushes that are bad, I would like Santa to replace them all.” – Color Me So Crazy
“Come on … 15 Deborah Lippmann nail polish shades?!? What’s not to love? I’ve been a fan of Deb’s since the beginning and every single shade she creates is gorgeous. I’d love for someone to gift this to me for the holidays!” – Jamie Allison Sanders
“I’ve tried a sample of this foundation and it’s amazing! It gives you a perfect glow that looks very natural. It’s very lightweight, so you don’t even feel that you have anything on your face. Love it!” – Kizzy Online
“What better way to start off the New Year than with a new signature scent? And what better way to pick a new scent then by sampling 14 scrumptious options and getting a full-sized bottle of your choice for free?!” – Yours truly
Will you be adding any of these items to your wish list this year?
Nail polish is one of my favorite indulgences as a beauty blogger/general person who likes fun, pretty things. It’s relatively inexpensive, easy to change and a quick way to improve your look … not to mention your mood.
I know a lot of people prefer the bright, neon Summer polishes, but I’m keen to the rich colors and eye-catching glitters of the Winter holidays. So if you’re more of a Summer girl in need of some Winter inspiration, I’ve rounded up seven of my favorite Winter nail polishes. One for each day of the week!
You know that motto “better late than never?” Yea, keep it in mind while you read this posty-post. Yes, I know it’s December, but my November GLOSSYBOX didn’t arrive until yesterday (December, 2). Not ideal, but we’ll roll with it. Right now I’m just sharing info and photos, but once I get to try out these goodies, I’ll give you a quick update. You know the drill 🙂
I love Fall and I love nail polish, so I’m extremely excited to share this gorgeous fall nail polish collection with you! When the kind folks at PRITI NYC reached out to see if I’d be interested in testing out their Autumn in Chile collection, I obviously could not resist. The only tough thing about that decision was trying to be patient while I waited for the polishes to arrive.
The four shades – Hadspen Blue (blue), Dublin Bay (orangey-red), Polish Spirit (purple) and Nodding Lilac (lilacy-grey) – are gorgeous and perfect for Fall while be versatile enough for the other seasons as well. I did need to use three-four coats depending on the color, which is a coat or two more than I normally prefer, but other than that, I have nothing but positive remarks for these polishes. They were long-lasting and vibrant. Plus, good news for those of you who are conscious of their polish’s ingredients: PRITINYC polishes are 5 Free & Vegan, completely non-toxic, and are free of toluene, dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, and camphor.
Without further ado – the colors:
And now if you excuse me, I’m going to continue casually holding a mini pumpkin as I run all of my errands.
Hi there, you lovelies. Just stopping by for a very quick update on my simple-yet-fun Halloween manicure. I went for black nails except for my ring finger, which is a lovely pumpkin orange. Believe it or not, I actually got the idea from my waitress at The Cheesecake Factory this weekend. Inspiration comes at the most unexpected times …
The colors I used were Pumpkin Queen and Night Fright from Sally Hansen. The perfect colors (and names) for an easy-as-pie Halloween manicure.
Do you have a Halloween manicure planned for this Friday?
To say I’m excited for Fall is an understatement. I wore my first sweater on an 80 degree day in September and my riding boots before it dropped below 60. What can I say? I’m a basic white girl and Fall is just my favorite.
And another favorite? Nail polish. If you’ve been reading for a while, you’ll know I change my nail polish often. Why stare at one color of nail polish all week when you could stare at multiple?! So the first order of business once the weather chilled was to whip out some of my current favorite Fall nail polishes.
Believe it or not, I haven’t purchased any new nail polishes this season. Ok, that was a blatant lie, I realized as I wrote the sentence. But, I only purchased one new polish, so that’s a win as far as I’m concerned. The new shade I nabbed was L’Oreal Extraordinaire Gel-Lacque in Glossed & Found and I’m wearing it on my nails as I type. It is such a beautiful, deep purple shade and I feel like a BAMF while wearing it.
Looking at these photos again makes me want to paint each nail a separate shade so I can stare at them all day long. I wouldn’t look like a crazy person at all … And if you do paint your nails a new Fall color, make sure to keep these tips and tricks in mind.
June is here, which means that Summer is unofficially officially in full swing. Unless you live in Boston with me where it’s not warm yet this year, but that’s a different story.
You already know that I’m loving Bareskin, L’Oreal polish in Tangerine Crush and the Skin Authority skin cleansing system for Summer, but I thought you deserved to hear from some of my blogger friends on this topic too.
Phyrra’s Pretty Little Exilir – “This hair mask is great for Summer to rehydrate your hair after being in the sun, getting it lightened, or swimming in pools. I use this weekly to keep my hair nice and soft!” Eugenia of Geniabeme
Hada Labo Tokyo Skin Plumping Gel Cream – “I love this milky almost clear gel moisturizer for summer because it is lightweight, not greasy in the least, and doesn’t clog pores or create milia. Also, it is fragrance-free so it doesn’t interfere with all the other sunscreens and scents that summer seems to bring.” Allison of Never Say Die Beauty
Clinique City Block day time cream with SPF 40 – “I have a very pale complexion that burns very easy, so I need lots of SPF in the summertime! Along with this cream being fairly affordable as far as daytime creams go, it also gives me a great base for my makeup application.” Kaelyn of MyFairDaily
Too Faced Melted Lipsticks – “I love the bright, punchy colors, especially Fuchsia, Candy, Violet and Ruby! They’re easy to apply, the formula is comfortable to wear and they’re very pigmented.” Courtney of Phyrra
Pond’s Luminous BB+ Cream – “Spf + light second-skin coverage make this a more desirable alternative to heavy foundation in the warmer months. This is such an easy product to wear; just slap it on your face and GO!” Carly of The Science of Chic
Dermalogica’s After Sun – “With the heat turning up, I know thay even though I am diligent with putting sunscreen on, sometimes it’s envitable that you will end up burnt. Dermaologica’s After Sun helps heal, soothe and reduce any irritation or redness caused by the sun and getting sun burnt. Seriously it is a life changing summer must have!” Jamie of Makeup Life and Love
Coola Face SPF 30 Cucumber – “I love it because it is organic sun protection! This sunblock rubs in nicely just like lotion (doesn’t leave that white residue), and leaves your face super smooth and soft.” Saarah of Beauty Momme
