February Favorites: 2015

Hi there, beauties. March is here, which means a couple of things. For one, Spring is just a couple short weeks away. Second, it’s time for February favorites. Like last month, I don’t have a huge amount of favorites, but I’m going with a zen less-is-more approach to life lately. Ok, that’s a complete lie … I just got back from Sephora with more than I intended to purchase … but I have just been dabbling in a bit of this and a bit of that rather than obsessing over specific products. And with that, let’s gander my monthly favorites and check out the giveaway at the bottom of the post.

february favorites 2015

Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo – This is not a new favorite. In fact, the first time that I wrote about this amazing product was August 2013.  I use it more-or-less on a daily basis. On first-day, second-day and third-day hair. It adds volume and texture to my style in addition to having three other uses. And the fact that it’s only $6 at my local CVS is just the icing on the cake. Just assume that this dry shampoo is a monthly favorite moving forward unless I say otherwise.

L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara – This is a new find rather than a recently re-discovered product. I had heard so many great things about this mascara online, but never got around to purchasing a tube of my own until last month. The first couple of tries were a huge flop and I thought that the hype was all smoke and mirrors. Then, as if by magic, the mascara did wonders for my lashes. They are lengthened, defined and almost look like falsies. Whenever I wear this, I get loads of compliments on my lashes, which is always the true test.

Lumene CC Cream – This isn’t a new product. Like the dry shampoo, I’m bringing it back from the back of my drawers. This Lumene CC cream makes my skin look naturally flawless and dewy. It’s the perfect everyday base for whatever look I am going after. I’m reaching the bottom of my bottle and it’s about time I replenish my stock.

Essence XXXL Shine Lipgloss – I discovered this glass last month. You might remember it from my 5-minute Valentine’s Day Makeup video.  It has a great color payoff and is relatively long lasting, all without being tacky or expensive. It’s one of my new favorite gloss brands.

Kate Spade New York ‘Gramercy Grand’ Bracelet Watch –  This was a Christmas present from my parents. I had it on my personal Pinterest “wish list” board and they generously nabbed it for me.  I squealed when I unwrapped it and put it on my wrist and I haven’t taken it off since. You will have seen it all of my fashion posts here, here and here.

This giveaway is now closed — Oh and another February favorite? Giving back to my readers! This month, I’m running a giveaway for a $50 Sephora gift card so you can treat yourself to some new goodies. Who knows, maybe they’ll be your March favorites. You can enter in the widget below. Good luck to all who enter!

Getting Dressed with oBaz

I’ve been lusting over the J.Crew Bubble Necklace for quite some time now. While I was tempted every time I saw it in stores, I couldn’t bring myself to pay $150 for a piece of costume jewelry. There are a lot of replica necklaces out there, but I hadn’t found one that was just right … until I found oBaz, that is.

The fine folks over at oBaz contacted me to tell me all about their site. In their own words, oBaz is “a virtual boutique showcasing the latest undiscovered products and brands.” On oBaz, you can search for products in almost every possible category: clothing; jewelry; accessories; bags; home decor; houseware; gifts; organize; beauty and edibles.

oBaz Discover function
Discover your new favorite product or brand

You can shop just like any other site, where you search through the different categories or look through what’s trending. What really makes oBaz unique is the “discover” function that allows you to play a shopping game of sorts. During the game, you click through a random selection of products by clicking “next.” If you see something you like, you can click “want” to save it to your account or share it on your social networks by clicking on the Pinterest or Facebook buttons. Plus, while you’re playing the game, you can win special limited-time rewards. Who doesn’t like an extra $5 off just because?!

I was lucky enough to be given a gracious $50 credit to test out the site and purchase anything that caught my eye. This is where the J.Crew necklace I mentioned at the top of this post comes in to play. I was playing the game, when the Blake Bauble Necklace by Life Adorned popped on to my screen. It was love at first sight! I immediately added the mauve necklace (this color is no longer available) to my cart and checked out. The necklace arrived just a couple of days later, and I couldn’t have been more excited.

Life Adorned Blake Bauble Necklace from oBaz
It's the perfect statement necklace

The necklace is everything I hoped for. The coloring is perfect and so is the length. In the spirit of total disclosure, I can’t get the clasp to open, but that’s what you get from a necklace that only costs $25. I could have exchanged the necklace for another one with a working clasp, but it fits over my head without a problem, and I don’t want to change the length. Plus, I didn’t want to go another day without this necklace in my life!

Loving this necklace against a black top

My whole experience with oBaz was ideal. Flipping through all the products is addicting (like Pinterest and Etsy), the checkout process was simple and delivery was speedy. I can’t wait to make my next purchase. I have my eyes on a couple of things, like this linen clutch and this personal vanity.

Do you have an oBaz account or will you set one up?

Review Double Feature: Komarov and Belargo

When it comes to packing for any and every type of trip, I always have a difficult time choosing what to bring. I face an internal fashion dilemma—How many outfits will I need? Should I bring those cute heels? Am I going to need to bring a coat? However, the biggest dilemma I face is how to bring clothing items of mine without having them wrinkle in my suitcase…

Introducing Komarov. Komarov is a women’s brand that focuses on creating clothes that are perfect for travel and wrinkle-resistant. The fabric used undergoes a special pleating technique that allows the clothing to avoid wrinkling in your bag.

Don’t believe me? Check out this video about the pleating technique: http://www.komarovinc.com/videos

To top it all off, the Komarov collection is absolutely stunning … expensive, but stunning. I was sent four pieces below to model for you all and I loved each of them. The fabric is extremely nice and the looks are very chic.

Charcoal Tank- $93; Cocoa Brown Pleated Long Skirt- $137
Black Pleated Top- $88
Black Jacket- $275
And from the back, for good measure

Komarov clothing can be purchased at Nordstrom, select boutiques, and online at www.Komarov.com.

When shopping for jewelry, I always go for the sophisticated yet feminine items. Belargo jewelry is just that. With pieces fit for royalty, the various collections are full of sparkle and detail.

I was generously sent a pair of drop gold earrings that are absolutely beautiful in person. I cannot wait to wear these out to the perfect event. They were even worn by Serena’s mother, Lily, on the hit TV series Gossip Girl. How can you not get excited about that, hmm?!

Back To School Essentials: Laptop Edition

Going back to school means an increased usage of all things techy. If you’re anything like me, you’ve fallen victim to the addicting habit that is buying electronics accessories. I can’t help it. I see a cute iPhone case, laptop protector or e-reader cover for my NOOK and go crazy. I’ve narrowed down my choices for this fall to dress up my most used technology.

As far as keeping the MacBook safe, Kuzy makes the best case in the business. It’s made from a rubberized satin, but is still hard, offering the best protection. I love it because the color choices are amazing. My number one choice is the hot tiffany blue. I found it on Amazon for only $15!

For my NOOK, I’m absolutely in love with the Kate Spade e-reader covers simply because they’re cute and fun. Conveniently, Barnes and Noble sells them along with a variety of other covers in fun, bright colors and the prices vary. My favorite is the one with letters scattered all over it (nerd alert) with the bright orange inside.

Perhaps the most addicting of all is the iPhone. My bedroom is full of different cases and covers that I couldn’t resist. Most recently, I’ve fallen in love with iPhone cases from Tory Burch, Rebecca Minkoff, and Kate Spade, but on a more unique side, Wanelo offers links to some ridiculously cool cases at all different prices.

This case is heat sensitive and only $12. SO COOL!!!
Bedazzled with pearls. $54 but absolutely beautiful!
For “The Hunger Games” fans! $35

Get Tech Chic with mobilexpressions Accessories at Target

Whether its the bangles on your wrists, the belt around your waist, or the clutch in your hands, your accessories speak volumes about your personality. But all too often, we seem to neglect our phones and other tech sidekicks, leaving them out of all the accessorizing fun.  Now we can let them in on the action, thanks to a new line of fashionable mobile tech accessories called mobilexpressions.

Developed from LuxMobile Group exclusively for Target, the mobilexpressions tech accessories collection consists of 18 new accessories that fit the iPhone 4, iPad and Kindle Fire. Whether you’re feeling like polka dots, stripes, bright designs or classic solids, mobilexpressions cases let you change your cases as often as you change your stilettos, with prices ranging from $24.99 for iPhone cases, $39.99 for new iPad Cases and $29.99 for Kindle Fire Cases.

I had the good fortune to test out a couple of the cases for myself.  While I don’t currently own an iPhone, I was able to get a glimpse of the mobilexpressions Entice case up close and personal.

mobilexpressions Entice case for the iPhone 4/4S

It has a ’60s mod feel that I absolutely love. (Can’t you just imagine wearing a microscopic mini and some white patent go-go boots while carrying that phone case? Okay, yeah me neither, but it would look really cool if someone else did.) The best part about it is that the plastic case is covered in canvas-like fabric, so you get a really creative texture on your phone, while maintaining good protection with a hard case. I’ve personally never seen a canvas cover before, so it definitely stands out in the crowd.

LuxMobile also sent along a more classic, chic case for the iPad 2.

This Textured Tan case is a great match for the saddle leather Tom’s Bags and Michael Kors bags. I happen to have a leather bag from my trip to Rome that matches this case perfectly, but even if you don’t have a matching purse, this case is classic enough to look great with anything you’re carrying or wearing. It’s also really functional as an iPad case, meaning it has a solid construction and it gives you a good grip, while being thin enough still that you don’t feel like you’ve just negated the whole reason for having a thin tablet to begin with.

Slim, strong and chic

In all, this is a fabulous collection, and the only downside is that LuxMobile has neglected to address people who have Droids or any other mobile offerings besides Apple products. That said, I hope they continue to make new designs after this limited edition run for Target (until items are sold out this summer) so that I can revamp my iPad again with the change of the seasons!

Live a charmed life with Ohm Beads

I know that charm bracelets aren’t for everyone, so let’s move past that. Good? Good!

If charm bracelets are for you, there’s a new brand you should have on your radar – Ohm Beads. I had heard of Pandora, and I actually have a Chamilia bracelet that my boyfriend made for me. Ohm, which is based in Seattle, “has a charm/keepsake for every cherished moment in your life.” They really do have charms for everything from animals to birthstones and zodiac symbols to classic designs.

Ohm graciously sent me a braided leather bracelet with a “discovery” bead. I was impressed with the high quality of both the bracelet and the bead. However, I wish there was a smaller size bracelet. I tired out the smallest size (7.1 inches), and it slipped off my wrists. Take a peak for yourself …

What do you all think? Are you charm bracelet folks or not?

Fab Finds: Leather Bracelets

One of my favorite additions to every daytime outfit is a wrist sprinkled with a few bohemian-inspired bracelets. Between the colorful beads and tortoise-colored cuffs, the most important basic to begin building your own bracelet collection is a leather bracelet.

Leather bracelets act as a distinctive accessory to every outfit. The smooth texture and neutral colors match with the darker tones of a fall wardrobe. Leather bracelets are made in a variety of different styles including simple cuffs and sophisticated wrap bracelets. One of the most popular wrap leather bracelets, which is coincidentally on the top of my wish list, is the beaded Chan Luu featured below.

I began my bracelet collection a couple of years ago when I found an intricately detailed leather bracelet at a boutique in Arizona. The hand-made bracelet was a chestnut color with small flowers and symbols carved into the surface. From there it was simple to match the colors and style of other bracelets to compliment the leather bracelet that I faithfully wore every day.

Colorblock Your Wardrobe

It seems as though everyone is flocking towards the colorblocking trend, but rightfully so. Why wear a piece of clothing in one of your favorite colors when you can wear a dress, shirt or shorts in two, three or even four of your favorite colors?

I happened to be perusing around in Urban Outfitters recently looking for some summer dresses to keep cool in and found this adorable number.  I was in love!  I was fully aware that the colorblocking trend was spreading quickly, but I had not exactly bought into it until I spotted that Sparkle & Fade Colorblock Dress tucked away in one of Urban’s many clothing racks.

By now, most designers have figured out the right recipes to combining blues with greens or pinks with purples- a few have even dared to mix purple and red (successfully!).  But, it’s not just clothing that has been colorblocked lately – bags, bracelets and even bathing suits have joined in on the fun.  Check out some of these cute dresses and accessories and pick out your favorite color combination!
