New York Fashion Week Highlights

While most of us pounded the pavement in our dreary duds, this past week, the streets of New York City were hustling and bustling with vibrant designers, models and fashion’s elite. And if you think Lady Gaga’s outfits are over the top, then you should see what’s in store for Fall 2011 according to the Merecedes-Benz Fashion Week.

But along with the bold and bizarre were some pretty classic styles that might actually make their way into our closets. We’ve rounded up videos from some of the most stylish runway shows so you can get a taste of the Big Apple no matter what city you live in.

High Fashion, Low Maintenance: Summer Day-to-Night Fashions

Our style mantra: Fashion and beauty are for everyone, no matter how busy your schedule or how small your budget may be. We represent the fashionista who has places to go, people to see, or just likes to sleep in a few extra hours. There’s no reason to run to class in sweats and unblushed cheeks when glamour can be achieved with just a little extra effort. Check here as Chelsea unveils quick tricks and perfect products that can update your look in a hot second, without breaking your budget.

It always helps to have an outfit that can pull double duty, wearable both day and night. It can be quite easy to turn your summer day look into a night ensemble with just a few accessory switches.

day to night

Take one dress from the beach to the bar.

For an example of how to turn your look from day to night, I used this simple drawstring tank dress from American Apparel as the basis for both styles. Solid dresses are the easiest summer staple to transition with different accessories.

During the day, try a pair of flat, strappy sandals, like this pair by Lily Pulitzer. I love the little details in this pair, but you can find similar sandals for less almost everywhere this summer.

Take things up a notch at night with a pair of high-heeled wedges. This leather knotted pair from BCBG are adorable and very summer appropriate.

A large, hobo bag is your best friend on a busy day. You can only pull off straw accessories like this Gap bag in the summer, so rock it while you can.

At night you don’t need to carry much, so a clutch is easy and compact. Brown leather clutches, like this envelope clutch from Urban Outfitters, are a lighter, more summery version of the typical black.

Embrace summer with beach-y jewelry. You can’t quite wear a seashell around your neck come December, so wear simple accessories like this Tiffany’s inspired starfish necklace while it’s still warm.

Make a statement at night. Tiered necklaces, like this one from Lauren by Ralph Lauren, really stand out and easily dress up your look.

Practical and cute, a sun hat is sun protection and summer style all in one. This summer, the floppier the better, like this ribbon tied, terry cloth hat from Juicy Couture.

No need for a hat at night; instead pull your hair back and wear a pair of big, attention grabbing earrings. This pair from Kenneth Cole are gorgeous, but not gaudy.

Squashing the Shopping Bug: Week 3

Kristin finally admits her problem — she’s a true shopaholic. There’s absolutely nothing she needs (her two closets are overflowing as it is). She’s vowed to stop shopping until May 16th, and she invites you to join her each Monday during this trying time.

Woah – can’t believe I am on my last week of my first month of NO SHOPPING. It’s actually getting a lot easier now to not shop. I don’t have as many urges and I don’t “forget” as often that I can’t spend money. Granted, there are plenty of things that I would love to snatch up when I see them in stores, but I have come to terms with the fact that I just can’t. Then again, I’m sure that when it warms up a bit more, I’m going to tempted to get some brand new delightful spring purchases. It’s definitely helping that I am tired of winter clothes and don’t want to buy any more.

I will once again apologize for the photos I will subject you to in just a second. Especially on Friday/Saturday when I was getting ready to go out with my roomie. We were very excited to see how many free drinks we could mooch off of unsuspecting bar patrons.

Hangover moping/Being an awesome friend

Why am I awesome? Because at 10 pm I went out with my friend when all I wanted to do was sleep. This is the text I got from him. “I have to go to XXX’s. He wants me to have drinks with these ugly, weird girls. Will you come with me so they won’t try to hook up with me?”

I thought about saying no and making his life miserable for him/funnier for me, but I felt bad and caved.
