This past Friday I was lucky enough to join some other fabulous members of Blog and Tweet Boston at the Boston Center for Adult Education for the Cupcakes and Cocktails class, which was taught by the one-and-only Dustin Rennels. The cocktails were delicious, the cupcakes were scrumptious and the instructor was the icing on the (cup)cake. Pun totally intended.
To set the stage, I’ll let the BCAE explain the concept behind the class:
What’s better than drinking a delightful cocktail? Eating one! In this course, set up like a cocktail party, we’ll all take a hand in preparing such treats as: Cosmo cupcakes, brandied peach, tiramisu cupcake, sangria cupcake, strawberry daiquiri, pina colada, Jell-O Shot cupcake, etc (flavors alternate depending on the season). But first we’ll start with cupcake flavored and shaped shooters, followed by two cocktails corresponding to our seasonal liquor-laced cakes to keep up the mood. Bring a friend and get ready to get your hands dirty and your palettes sweetened!
The short version? You drink booze, you put booze in cupcake batter, you bake the cupcakes and then eat said boozy cupcakes. What more is there to know?! The only thing left to know … where to sign up, which is here.
During the three-hour session we whipped up:
- Brandied peach cupcakes with tangy brown sugar frosting
- Sangria cupcakes with fruit compote topping
- Spring break cupcakes
- Red wine spicy winter sangria
- Apple cider hot toddy
- Cake frosting shot
Instead of explain all of these delicacies to you, I’ll just share some mouth-watering photos instead.
If you’re in Boston and haven’t been to Cupcakes and Cocktails yet, you need to sign up ASAP. And if all the spots are taken, check out Dustin’s other classes, I’m sure they’re equally as awesome.
Have you taken any BCAE classes before? If so, what was your favorite?
