High Fashion, Low Maintenance: Romp Around

Our style mantra: Fashion and beauty are for everyone, no matter how busy your schedule or how small your budget may be.  We represent the fashionista who has places to go, people to see, or just likes to sleep in a few extra hours.  There’s no reason to run to class in sweats and unblushed cheeks when glamour can be achieved with just a little extra effort.  Check here as Chelsea unveils quick tricks and perfect products that can update your look in a hot second, without breaking your budget.

Whether you like it or not, there is no escaping the fact that the romper is this summer’s hottest trend. And why shouldn’t it be? It’s an all-in-one style dream come true. No need to find the right shirt to match your shorts or worry about a strong gust of wind blowing up your skirt. Sure, those reasons won’t stop you from wearing your shorts or skirts, but the functionality of the romper is certainly undeniable. Thanks to the expansive range of styles, you can rock a romper almost anywhere.

Paired with wedges and wicker picnic basket, this denim romper ($27.80, Forever21) is
perfect for a casual summer day.

Late Night BBQ

This one-shoulder, ruffled romper ($58, Urban Outfitters) is classy and girly, just right for a warm summer night get-together. This is definitely a little fancier than your average romper. Did I mention I’m also a sucker for anything with pockets?

Beach Coverup

This patterned, lightweight romper (SALE $39.50, Victoria’s Secret) is a great style and material for a beach or poolside cover-up. I love the animal prints, but it is also available in solid white or black for a tamer look.

Date Night

This romantic and dark-toned romper (SALE $49.95, Free People) is form fitting and sexy. It shows a little leg, but leaves just enough to the imagination.

High Fashion, Low Maintenance: Get Back to Basics at Forever21

Our style mantra: Fashion and beauty are for everyone, no matter how busy your schedule or how small your budget may be.  We represent the fashionista who has places to go, people to see, or just likes to sleep in a few extra hours.  There’s no reason to run to class in sweats and unblushed cheeks when glamour can be achieved with just a little extra effort.  Check here as Chelsea unveils quick tricks and perfect products that can update your look in a hot second, without breaking your budget.

Why blow the bank on this?
Why blow the bank on this?

To splurge or not to splurge?  I often ask myself this when faced with an overpriced item I just have to have.   Frequently, I will cave in, but I always ask myself, “Can I find this for cheaper somewhere else?”  And when it comes to basics, the answer is always, “Yes.”

American Apparel may be trendy, but why should a simple camisole or t-shirt cost you top dollar?  While scouring the Internet for summer basics, I discovered Forever21’s awesome online deals on all your basic needs.  Camis, tanks and tees all start at just $2.50 and range in a huge selection of styles, colors and patterns.

You cannot find a good basic solid cami or t-shirt for less anywhere else. But, what I love most about Forever21 is that they do not stop there. You can pick a cami with a lace trim or a v-neck tee, for just one dollar more than the basics.

My favorite twists on the classics are this welted pocket tunic for a loose, summer look:

welted pocket tunic

And this tank with a crocheted back.

The ultimate must have this summer: the basic bandeau top.

basic bandeau top

These bandeaus are perfect for under a loose fitting tank that might show just a little too much or a v-neck that dips just a little too low. A similar style cost $11 at American Apparel and only $3.80 at Forever.

I will not lie. I have some great jersey dresses and patterned skirts from American Apparel that I love and wear to death. But, I like to bargain hunt for my basics, and this summer, Forever21 cannot be beat.

Squashing the Shopping Bug: Week 7

Kristin finally admits her problem — she’s a true shopaholic. There’s absolutely nothing she needs (her two closets are overflowing as it is). She’s vowed to stop shopping until May 16, and she invites you to join her each Monday during this trying time.

So folks, another week has come and gone and I have yet to do any clothes shopping. The fabulous weather this week/weekend allowed me to bust out some articles I haven’t worn in a while such as a skirt without tights and even a pair of shorts.  Crazy, I know.

Squashing the Shopping Bug: Week 3

Kristin finally admits her problem — she’s a true shopaholic. There’s absolutely nothing she needs (her two closets are overflowing as it is). She’s vowed to stop shopping until May 16th, and she invites you to join her each Monday during this trying time.

Woah – can’t believe I am on my last week of my first month of NO SHOPPING. It’s actually getting a lot easier now to not shop. I don’t have as many urges and I don’t “forget” as often that I can’t spend money. Granted, there are plenty of things that I would love to snatch up when I see them in stores, but I have come to terms with the fact that I just can’t. Then again, I’m sure that when it warms up a bit more, I’m going to tempted to get some brand new delightful spring purchases. It’s definitely helping that I am tired of winter clothes and don’t want to buy any more.

I will once again apologize for the photos I will subject you to in just a second. Especially on Friday/Saturday when I was getting ready to go out with my roomie. We were very excited to see how many free drinks we could mooch off of unsuspecting bar patrons.

Hangover moping/Being an awesome friend

Why am I awesome? Because at 10 pm I went out with my friend when all I wanted to do was sleep. This is the text I got from him. “I have to go to XXX’s. He wants me to have drinks with these ugly, weird girls. Will you come with me so they won’t try to hook up with me?”

I thought about saying no and making his life miserable for him/funnier for me, but I felt bad and caved.

alarm clock

Ask BX: Yikes! No Time to Do My Hair. What Do I Do?

alarm clockDear BX,

I have this pesky problem of hitting the snooze a few too many times every once in a while, leaving me with no time to wash my hair and style it in the morning. This typically results in me sporting (other than a phobia of people noticing or smelling my unwashed locks) a ho-hum ponytail. What can I do when I oversleep to take my hair from snoozeville to wow-city?

-Olivia S.

Dear Olivia,

The pesky problem of the over-snooze, under-wash happens to the best of us—and to most of us. While it might be good for your hair to skip a day or two of washing and hot tools, it doesn’t always bode well for our hair confidence.

As easy as it is to throw your hair up into a simple pony, it is also equally as easy to spice up that perfect pony. If you’re dead set on your signature no-shower ponytail, spice it up with some cute accessories— headbands and hair clips.

hair accessories 2

Satin Beaded Headband: Target; Radiant Chain Link Headband: Fred Flare; Ruffled Headband: Forever21

However, if you feel like venturing out of your ponytail safety zone, style your hair into a classic low-chignon for an elegant “I meant to do this” look or cute side swept braid à la Lauren Conrad. They take just about the same amount of time and are just as easy as pulling your hair back into a ponytail. I’ve compiled some visual inspiration for you to use as a guide.

And if you are still nervous about a little grease showing through when you skip the suds, try a little dry shampoo to ease those worries.

Best of luck!

-Kristin

Fab Finds: Stunner Shades

As the summer heats up (it finally stopped raining over here!) it’s time we pull out our favorite shades and soak up some sun. And while we would love to buy designer sunglasses, we can’t always justify a couple hundred dollars on an accessory that we will most likely lose or beat up at the beach. Instead of depressing your bank accounts, bring some light into your life with one of these five inexpensive shades.

1. Aviator Sunglasses

Forever21 has done it again with their aviator sunglasses, available in two different color combinations. Whether black and silver or gold and brown is your thing (or even both, we don’t judge), you won’t experience sticker shock. At $5.80 each, you might as well get one pair of each.

2. Xhilaration® Surfrider Sunglasses

The classic Rayban wayfarer’s have found their way back into the limelight, but unfortunately, their price tag isn’t the most feasible for many. Thankfully, the Target gods shined down on us again. For just $12.99, you can get a pair of Rayban-inspired Xhilaration Surfrider sunglasses.

3. Kenneth Cole KC2104 Women’s Designer Sunglasses

We were able to find designer sunglasses at a knockoff price at Overstock.com.  A nice compromise for someone who likes the oversized look but doesn’t have the face for them, this pair of moderately sized Kenneth Cole glasses is a steal at just $39.99.

4. Inspired by D&G

Sunglass Replicas offers the perfect solution for anyone who loves designer glasses but can’t afford the affect it has on their wallet. For just $26.99, you can purchase this pair of Dolce & Gabbana inspired shades. No matter your skin tone or color preferences, there is a shade for everyone (four options in total).

5. Oversized Celebrity Style

Oversized glasses have become a wardrobe staple again over the past few years. Celebrities such as Nicole Richie and the Olsen Twins practically live in sunglasses as large as the faces. Now, you can look like the celebs without the price. This adorable pair of oversized glasses is available online at Sunglass Warehouse for $12.71.
