What’s Coming: Holly Gets Ready for Spring Makeup Trends

mascaraWith our scarves still nestled around our necks and the chill of Jack Frost lingering, I can’t help but dream about the season to come!  There’s just something about spring that feels whimsical and dreamy!  I don’t know if it’s the blooming flowers or the sunny weather but I’m always reaching for something bright during the spring.

What are you looking forward to this spring? Eye-popping shadows? Pink pouty lips? Colorful lashes?

As spring approaches, let me know what new colors or techniques you’d like me to try and I’ll do my best to attempt them all!

Enjoy the Holidays with Five Treatments that Bring Your Best Face Forward

Loss of sleep, lots of caffeine, and munching on horrible snacks because you don’t have the time for anything healthy…sound familiar?  All those factors make an equation for breakouts!  And with all the camera opportunities during the winter, having a huge pimple on your nose isn’t the best move.

I try to do a facial peel or mask at least twice a week to ensure I don’t end up with a ripe blemish as my Christmas morning present.  While it may seem like there’s no time for anything but wrapping presents or finishing up holiday cards, take the time to slather on one of these picks.  Trust me, those extra five minutes will be well worth it!

Fresh Appleseed Brightening Exfoliant ($60)

This one’s at the top of my list because I cannot live without it.  It’s a bit pricey, but I can ensure that you’ll realize it was well worth the investment after your first use!  Somehow Fresh has conjured up a formula that does EXACTLY what it’s supposed to do without the excess irritation of the skin.  This exfoliant is made from the best of natural ingredients like pomegranate seeds, bamboo, apple seed oil, mulberry root extract and even essential fatty acids.

Deep Cleansing Emergency Mask by Clinque ($19.50)

A leader in skin care, Clinique has done it again with its Deep Cleansing Emergency Mask.  Clay-based and meant for those oh-my-God-what-is-that moments, it’s perfect for quick five minute fixes or longer at-home spa sessions two or three times a week.

Ahava Mud Exfoliator ($25)

I’m a big fan of Ahava, and that love was only strengthened after trying this fabulous little product.  Like all things Ahava, this formula is made with natural Dead Sea mud and minerals, making it safe for sensitive skin.  I personally love how creamy and luxurious the cream feels upon application.

AHAVA Mud Exfoliator

MD Skincare Alpha-Beta Face Peel ($128)

Promising to deliver medical-grade quality in an easy to use at-home treatment, MD Skincare won me over with this kit.  Usually kits like these include a bunch of messy steps that end with me frustrated and ready to pay someone for the same exact effect!  The face peel ‘pads’ included are so easy to use and make the peel an easy part of your skin care regimen.  Packed with Vitamins A, C, E and green tea extract, you’ll be surprised how great your skin looks without that pricey trip to a medi-spa!

FACE Peel Off Purifying Mask by Sephora ($12)

There is something so fun about a peel-off mask, and this one is no different!  No need to rinse after you remove — the formula regulates oil in the skin and tightens pores without removing the excess moisture.

Hectic Holiday? Lighten and Brighten with Sampar Paris Spot Lighter

sampar spot lighterAs the flow of holiday party invitations clutters my email inbox, the realization that I’ll probably get no sleep ‘til the New Year settled in even more.  While all the parties seem like such a blur, the lack of rest is very apparent on my skin – especially under the eyes!  For emergencies, I always squeeze in a tiny tube of concealer into my small “only-for-parties” handbag or clutch.  Also a big fan of highlighter, I try to carry that as well since it brightens up my usually dull (from running on coffee and Redbull) face!

I was recently introduced to The City of Light collection from Sampar Paris and I am now stocking my “arsenal” with its handy Spot Lighter.  Its high-powered clarifying element is made with 10 percent of the natural pigment in citrus fruits and vegetables, making it powerful yet not chemically altered.  As of late, I’m becoming a huge fan of facial products that utilize organic and natural gifts rather than those created in a laboratory.  Other ingredients include the exfoliating power of subtilisine microcristal enzymes, which can potentially cause less allergies than glycolic acid.

Made with a soft, angled applicator tip, this pen-size marvel can fit into any purse with no trouble!  Use it on any dark or uneven pigmentation on the face, neck, and hands.  And unlike other lightening and brightening treatments, you can apply the Spot Lighter a few times a day – perfect for those 911 moments!

Available at Beauty360 and Sampar.com for $45.

Arm Yourself for a Holiday Flight Frenzy!

With so much to think about during the holidays, it’s easy for us all to forget a few minor things here and there.  If you’re like me and have to travel during this crazy season, you know it doesn’t get any harder!  After checking off all my to-dos, I’m so tired I can barely pack for a day let alone a whole three weeks!  Yet for the sake of seeing my family, I shove a few outfits into my suitcase and finally breathe only when I’m settling into my window seat.

Flights can be weary on the body and face so I’ve come up with a few travel-pampering must-haves…

Blistex Deep Renewal Lip Protectant/Sunscreen SPF 15 ($3)
The holidays are a time of love so that means you’ll be giving lots of hugs and kisses! Prep ahead of time with this nourishing mix that also includes vitamin collagens and coenzyme Q-10.

Sampar Skin Quenching Mist ($42)

Dry skin goes hand in hand with flights — no matter how long or short it is!  This light formula is so airy that it’s almost unbelievable just how moisturized your skin feels after a short burst.

Dream Time Aromatherapy Dreams Sleep Mask in Lavender Velvet ($25)

Zone out, take back those lost hours of slumber and let the relaxation take over with this soothing lavender-scented mask.

Pond’s Clean Sweep Cleansing Wipes ($3/15 ct.)

I literally carry these everywhere!  They’re perfect for taking off makeup, correcting mistakes, and just in case you need to freshen up a little.  Do your whole face and neck before you get off the plane for a pick-me-up.

So close your eyes — try to forget the crying baby or the terrible in-flight movie, and focus on resting up. Remember, when you land, it’s STILL the holiday season!

Go for the Gold: New Gilty Pleasures Collection by Napoleon Perdis

gilty pleasures collection napoleon perdis coverWe all have guilty pleasures, and (if it isn’t obvious) my favorite one is cosmetics! There’s just something all too tempting about an item that’s not only pretty on the skin but when it comes to the packaging as well. Beauty brand Napoleon Perdis Cosmetics has brought together elegant casing and beautiful hues to create the Gilty Pleasures Collection.  Without even seeing the collection, you can tell from the name that everything is touched by the holiday-friendly, metallic shades of gold, silver, and bronze!

The likes of Whitney Port, Leighton Meester, Anna-Lynne McCord, and more can be counted amongst Napoleon Perdis fans, making him responsible for some of the biggest faces in young Hollywood.  Complete with everything from makeup brushes to bronzing products, Perdis has used his own “Midas touch” to ensure a little sparkle and shimmer from every piece of his gilded creations!

Check out my favorite picks:

Napoleon Perdis Gold Digger Glimmer productGold Digger Glimmer ($25) –Doesn’t the name just kill you?

Rich in pigment and easy to apply, these little pots of sparkle come in yellow gold, white gold, and bronze — perfect shades for all the upcoming parties!  I love seeing all the dazzling makeup looks created during the holidays, and these glimmers will be in high demand!  Plus, I couldn’t help but fall in love with that oh-so-chic packaging!

Bronze Bonanza napoleon perdisBronze Bonanza

I was born with naturally-tan skin, but during the winter, I tend to “fade” a bit since I’m rarely out in the sun.  Since I rarely use bronzer, it’s even more rare for me to find one I like!  This finely-milled, buildable formula is just what I needed to fake that “born in the sun” shade.  Use it all over — including the décolletage for just that perfect pop of sun-kissed sparkle.

What products do you call on when you need that glowing look?

Fall Beauty: A Look for the Season

holly fall feast open eyesIn coordination with the with all the fall madness here at BeautyXpose, I’ve decided to share a striking, but simple, look that incorporates the warm shades of the season.

While I love the colors of fall, it’s hard for certain colors to be prominent against my skin tone — though it doesn’t stop me from using them.  Since a lot of them are close to my natural hue, it’s easy for me to create both simple and even intense looks by adjusting the amount of product I use.  This look is simple enough to be worn by day and can be dressed up more for a night out!

Try it out, and show me some of your fall-inspired looks!

Here’s what I used:

  • Coastal Scents Neutral Palette
  • MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre – one of my favorite bases
  • NYX Eyeliner in Charcoal
  • CoverGirl Lash Blast Length – look how long my lashes are!

Get Holly’s Pretty Halloween Party Look

Welcome back scavengers! I hope you’ve found everything on our list!

If so, let’s take a look at what I did with the colors.

halloweenlook 4

Although I love the use of bright colors, I still went for a somewhat low-key look.  I wanted something that was flexible with whatever it was I decided to wear for Halloween.

Now for the real “treat” — everything I used was from my local drugstore, so you won’t have to break the bank!  Besides, most of us don’t want to spend too much on looks we’re trying for the first time.

If you want, amp things up or even tone things down a little when trying your look!

halloweenlook2Here’s what I used:

  • Eyes
    • Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow in ‘Chocolate Mousse’
    • Rimmel Eye Glistener in ‘Eyeful’
    • NYX Eyeshadow Trio in TS11 (Orange, Golden Orange, Peach)
    • Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara in Black
    • Revlon Matte Luxurious Color Eye Liner in ‘Black Truffle’
  • Lips
    • Jordana Lip Liner in ‘Hot Pepper’
    • Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in ‘Temptation’
    • Revlon Matte Lipstick in ‘In the Red’
  • Cheeks
    • Maybelline Dream Mousse Blush in ‘Rose Petal’

I want to see a few of your looks so share, share, share!

So get ready — we’ll be using the items you start searching for today in a look next week.

Start looking for these items now so you’re ready for our Halloween-inspired look next Wednesday!

Autumn’s Offerings: A Beauty Wish List of Fall Hues

Autumn is a gorgeous season — the leaves are changing from green to golden brown or reddish orange, and everything seems to be a warmer, more intense shade than before.  In my opinion, every sunset is Kodak-worthy during the fall, and I yearn for those same delicious shades in my makeup collection!

So I headed to the mother-ship (aka Sephora) to see what new Aumtum-inspired products I could take home!

Check out my picks:

Red Carpet Reveal Eye & Cheek Palette from LORAC ($34) — This perfect all-in-one case has three shadows and a blush to create looks perfect for day or night.  My favorite is the Main Attraction cheek color, which is a gorgeous shimmering rose.

Make Up For Ever Lipstick in Plum 507 ($19) — Plum 507 is a deep matte-burgundy color and it’s a great find for those looking for their first ‘wine’ lip shade.  This lipstick comes in four different finishes — pearly, creamy, transparent and matte.

SEPHORA by OPI Dark Room Nail Colour Nail Polish ($9) — What appears to be flat black isn’t just!  If you look closely enough, there’s a deep, hunter green that’s mixed in — a fun twist on the usual dark shades of the fall.

Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Liner Shadow: Eyeliner ($13) — I’m a big fan of Bare Escentuals, so I wasn’t surprised when I was impressed with their shadow liners.  The shadows can be worn dry for a quiet eye or wet for a more dramatic, pigmented look.  My picks?  Patio Party, a bronzed bark color, and Legit, a deep eggplant shade.  FYI — they’re also smudge proof and water-resistant.
