This past Sunday I was invited to a VIB Rouge “Beauty Before Brunch” party. What does that mean? People who spend too much money at Sephora on a yearly basis are invited to come spend even more money all at one time. Needless to say, I RSVPed as fast as my little fingers would let me and planned my mini Sephora Haul.
Having just returned for a long and relatively expensive vacation, I told myself I would save money by just picking up the “necessities.” But need is relative, and I ended up with three hair products I was excited to get my hands on. I snatched up the Living Proof PHD shampoo and conditioner, which I have been LOVING (more on that later), and the Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow it cream I had read about on Gouldylox. I haven’t tried the B&B cream yet, but I’m going to this weekend and I can’t wait!
In addition to the products that I paid for, each event-goer was gifted an adorable makeup bag filled with samples from all sorts of brands ranging from KORRES to benefit to Chloe. Not a bad perk!
At the beginning of the year I was all “Oh I won’t buy as many new beauty products this year.” I thought I was going to be so sly and passing by the CVS beauty aisle and Sephora like I didn’t give two flying ducks. I WAS WRONG.
Over the past few weeks I’ve acquired an eyeliner here, an mascara there. By the time I stopped and looked around, I had a nice little CVS and Sephora haul on my hands. The brow pencil was an empties replacement, but the rest are all new goodies that I can’t wait to test out.
Believe it or not, but before the other week I had never so much as tried out MAC products. I had this preconceived notion that their products were too bright and crazy for a neutral-product gal like me. I never claimed to be the smartest beauty blogger out there …
When I was in Seattle recently, I had time to kill before a wedding since my boyfriend was busy doing wedding party activities. Another groomsman’s wife and I became fast friends and decided to get our hair and makeup done so we could relax rather than spend all morning rushing to get ready. We located a local salon that had last-minute openings for blow outs and then headed over to the MAC counter at the flagship Nordstrom.
My makeup artist did a wonderful job with the makeover. He gave me a neutral eye with a bold cat eye, fabulously bronzed skin without being unnatural and a bold hot pink lip. Then a mini MAC haul ensued. I didn’t want my look to go to crap halfway through the night, so I purchased my own lip liner and lipstick for on-the-spot touchups. And since I’d heard such great things about their paint pots, I picked up the one he used because why not? I actually used it for the first time yesterday and it was the perfect base to my everyday neutral eye. I see it becoming a staple product moving forward.
As you might have read, I’ve been a lazy mothertrucker when it comes to my beauty routine lately. And as soon as I wrote that post and clicked “publish” I decided it was time to get my ish together. The very next day I wore a full face of makeup. A full face, I tell you. It was a miraculous event. After busting back in to my daily makeup routine, I noticed there were a few items that needed refreshing. My eyeliner had dried up, I was bored with my brow gel and I ran out of face oil. Oh the horror!
Off to Sephora I went. I didn’t get a lot of items, just the necessities … as much of a necessity as makeup can be. I am LOVING my new Anastasia Brow Wiz and I’m glad to have a fresh bottle of face oil again. Ladies – I bought my last bottle in March and it lasted me until last week. Best $50 I’ve ever spent.
I went in expecting to repurchase my Bobbi Brown gel liner, but the Sephora I stopped in didn’t carry it in my color. So, forced with a dilemma – new liner or no liner – I decided to try out Smashbox’s Jet Set Waterproof Eyeliner. I’ve only used it once so far, and so far so good. I’ll keep you updated on that.
Now that I’ve gotten a reminder of how fabulous Sephora is (it had been months, folks), I’m dying to go back but I’m trying to restrain myself. But if you want to do a little shopping of your own while I’m busy trying to avoid it, enter our $50 Sephora gift card giveaway.
