How to style an a-line skirt two ways

One Skirt, Two Ways – In the Office

This post should really be titled “How toStyle an A-line Skirt for Work,” but whatever.  Believe it or not, I only own ONE … I repeat, ONE … skirt. It’s this navy a-line skirt you see in this here post. I love the idea of skirts, but they always seem to ride up or turn around on me, so I end up pissed rather than feeling fabulous and fresh. In a fit of skirt-induced rage, I got rid of all of my skirts except this one since it didn’t move around as much as the others.

Seeing that this skirt is it for me, I need to be able to style it different ways for all of the different events in my life. And as much as I wish it wasn’t so, going to work is the most common event in my life (outside of eating, drinking and breathing, of course). So here you go, an outfit I sported this past week to work. And please find it in your heart to excuse the photo quality here, my camera died right before I shot with Agnes, so I had to resort to my trusty iPhone.

What would you pair with this skirt for a day at the office?

snowy ootd

Snowy Sunday

Some New Englanders have been itching for a snow day. As far as Winters go, this one has been pretty mild. Sure, there were a few below-zero days, but there have been plenty of days where I’m too toasty after walking more than a few minutes in my coat and scarf. And the icing on the cake, as far as I’m concerned? There has been little-to-no snow. We had flurries here and there, but nothing substantial … until now. It snowed on Saturday this past weekend and it’s set to potentially blizzard this week (when this post goes live).

Don’t get me wrong, I love Winter wear. The hats, coats, scarves and boots all tickle my fancy. I love a bundled look, but I don’t necessarily love the snow that goes with it. I like to wear snow boots because I choose to, not because I have to. Makes total sense, right? Right! Glad we’re on the same page.

This past Sunday, I met up with the lovely Agnes from Spoons and Stilettos for a cup of coffee and outfit photos. It was such a pleasure to meet Agnes, especially since we’re two city bloggers caught in the suburbs 🙂 We might have gotten a few stares from people walking by, but we didn’t let that stop us from capturing our snowy OOTD.

Outfit Post: Banana Republic

I felt like a walking advertisement for Banana Republic today because my pants, top and necklace were all purchased there recently. I went shopping yesterday for the bf’s birthday present (which I did get), and ended up doing a little shopping for myself. It was Memorial Day, so I couldn’t help it. Plus, Banana was offering me 40% off my purchase. It would have been a crime against nature to walk away!

These trouser jeans as perfect for both a casual and a semi-dressy occasion, plus the top is so fabulous for sping! I love the zig-zag lace detailing and the bright pink color.

The pink top is so perfect for spring
How can you not love a back zipper?
These are the perfect work jeans

Showing a little ankle - getting frisky
I'm thinking about shortening these pants just a little bit, as they are a bit too slouchy at the ankle for my liking

Do you shop at Banana Republic? If so, do you have a favorite piece?

Outfit Post: I’m a Giraffe

So I’m not literally a giraffe (in case you couldn’t figure that out on your own), but I’m pretty sure this dress is giraffe print, which obviously makes me a giraffe by association. It’s been a long week (yes I know it’s only Monday), so excuse my nonsensical rambling.

I found this dress (by Valerie Bertinelli) at my local TJMaxx last Friday while I as shopping. Some people drink after a hard week of work, but I shop. I rationalize my unnecessary spending by reminding myself that’s it’s healthier for my body than excessive post-work drinking. I love a good animal print, so I couldn’t put this dress back on the rack. Next time, I am definitely going to style it with a colorful belt and maybe even a statement necklace. Getting crazy, I know.

Does this giraffe print make me look taller? (Bad joke, I know)
I feel like I'm hosting the weather segment on the news in this photo
