This past Sunday I was invited to a VIB Rouge “Beauty Before Brunch” party. What does that mean? People who spend too much money at Sephora on a yearly basis are invited to come spend even more money all at one time. Needless to say, I RSVPed as fast as my little fingers would let me and planned my mini Sephora Haul.
Having just returned for a long and relatively expensive vacation, I told myself I would save money by just picking up the “necessities.” But need is relative, and I ended up with three hair products I was excited to get my hands on. I snatched up the Living Proof PHD shampoo and conditioner, which I have been LOVING (more on that later), and the Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow it cream I had read about on Gouldylox. I haven’t tried the B&B cream yet, but I’m going to this weekend and I can’t wait!
In addition to the products that I paid for, each event-goer was gifted an adorable makeup bag filled with samples from all sorts of brands ranging from KORRES to benefit to Chloe. Not a bad perk!
As I mentioned earlier this week, I went on an eyeshadow bender recently, and one of my purchases was the new Marsala palette from the SEPHORA+PANTONE UNIVERSE collection. This throwback to the 90s is so divergent than the shadow shades I gravitate to, so I figured it was worth a shot. New year, new me. #Amiright?
Depending on what you’re used to spending on makeup, I think this palette is a steal at $39 because it comes with 24 gorgeous shades! That’s less than $2 a shadow, so it’s basically free if you think about it that way … And while many of the colors go out of my comfort zone, none of them are so crazy that I can’t imagine wearing them.
To be completely transparent, the packaging feels a bit cheap and I am more worried about dropping it than my sturdier palettes, but other than that, it seems perfect. I’ll be giving it a go today (today when you read this, not today when I write this), so I’ll make sure to update you on my thoughts.
Sadly, the palette is sold out online, but it’s worth checking your local Sephora to see if they still have any in stock.
What is your favorite shade in this palette and what do you think of the Marsala trend?
As you might have read, I’ve been a lazy mothertrucker when it comes to my beauty routine lately. And as soon as I wrote that post and clicked “publish” I decided it was time to get my ish together. The very next day I wore a full face of makeup. A full face, I tell you. It was a miraculous event. After busting back in to my daily makeup routine, I noticed there were a few items that needed refreshing. My eyeliner had dried up, I was bored with my brow gel and I ran out of face oil. Oh the horror!
Off to Sephora I went. I didn’t get a lot of items, just the necessities … as much of a necessity as makeup can be. I am LOVING my new Anastasia Brow Wiz and I’m glad to have a fresh bottle of face oil again. Ladies – I bought my last bottle in March and it lasted me until last week. Best $50 I’ve ever spent.
I went in expecting to repurchase my Bobbi Brown gel liner, but the Sephora I stopped in didn’t carry it in my color. So, forced with a dilemma – new liner or no liner – I decided to try out Smashbox’s Jet Set Waterproof Eyeliner. I’ve only used it once so far, and so far so good. I’ll keep you updated on that.
Now that I’ve gotten a reminder of how fabulous Sephora is (it had been months, folks), I’m dying to go back but I’m trying to restrain myself. But if you want to do a little shopping of your own while I’m busy trying to avoid it, enter our $50 Sephora gift card giveaway.
To apologize for the lack of content this past month (aka to bribe you not to leave us), we wanted to give one of you a $50 Sephora gift card. The dog days of Summer are upon us, which means you definitely deserve a special somethin’-somethin’ to help you beat the heat and humidity. All of the entry details are below – good luck! We wish we could give you each a gift card.
A new month means a new list of items I want someone to buy me … I mean I want to buy myself. And seeing as I was gone most of June for work, I didn’t get a chance to get the items on that wish list either. I guess I have double the shopping to do this month!
Don’t get me wrong — I love a good old-fashioned trip to Sephora. But I just can’t help but love Ulta more. (And yes, I know this is a very unpopular opinion in the land of beauty bloggers). Here’s why I adore this store.
1. You can get all sorts of beauty services in the same place you buy your deodorant.*
Because who doesn’t love getting their nails done and then stocking up on antiperspirant?
2. Get rewarded for getting your hair done.
Not only do you rack up ULTAmate Reward points for every purchase you make, but they count when you get a service too. That means getting about $8 to put toward a future purchase every time I get my hair colored, cut and highlighted. Score.
3. They have drugstore brands right alongside higher-end “prestige” brands.
The perfect mix of aspiration without the snobbery.
4. There’s virtually always a coupon or deal.
For everyone. At all times.
5. Men aren’t afraid to shop there.
In my experience, there are 10 men in Ulta for every one man I see in Sephora. Says one male friend of Ulta, “I liked the girl that got all of the crap on my list and then took my money. She did it efficiently.”
6. The salespeople don’t make you feel like a moron if you don’t know a BB cream from a CC cream.
I’ve been doing this thing lately where I just shop. I want something, I buy it. It’s great for my wardrobe and makeup collection, but terrible for my wallet. So far in the whopping nine days of April, I’ve somehow acquired FIVE new beauty products. To be fair, two were freebies from Sephora and two were gifts from my mom, so that leaves me with having bought just one.
I haven’t test driven each product just yet, but I wanted to share them with you because I’m just too excited to wait! Here is my mini Sephora haul (perfumes not part of the haul):
I can’t wait to report back with full reviews of all the products. Also, I just realized how many lip products I’ve acquired so far this month.
In case you missed it (I almost did … honestly), yesterday was the first day of Spring. Plus, it wasn’t even frigid in Boston. A win all around. What better way to ring in Spring than with some new beauty products?
We want to help you put a little Spring in your step, so we’re giving one of you beautiful readers a $50 Sephora gift card to buy anything your heart desires. If your heart needs a few suggestions, may I recommend the following fabulous products?
Made up your mind yet? Even if you haven’t, go ahead and enter the giveaway!
My birthday came and went last week, which I obviously used as an excuse to treat myself. I bought a new pair of glasses from Warby Parker, spent my evenings dining out with friends, and paid a quick (ha!) visit to Sephora. I picked up new primer by Hourglass and cleanser by Fresh, and I’m already obsessed.
While I was checking out, I was pleasantly wished a happy birthday and reminded that Sephora gives out little birthday gifts! In past years I remember getting that birthday cake scented shampoo/body wash/whatever else you would like it to be, but this year’s gift was different.
I received this adorable little set from Benefit with their Watt’s Up! highlighter and They’re Real! mascara. I’m sure it comes as no surprise to hear I tested them both out immediately. In all honesty, I think Benefit has me convinced – I’m already worried about them running out!
Moral of the story? If your birthday is coming up (or if you’re in need of some awesome new makeup), you should probably stop by Sephora at some point.
Birthday: Have a birthday coming up? Make sure you stop by a Sephora and pick up your free Benefit duo.
Mascara: I’m extremely particular when it comes to my mascara. Out of ten, I’m going to go ahead and give this one nine stars!
Highlighter: This weekend I opted to wear highlighter on my cheeks instead of blush and was definitely pleased with my decision. My cheeks had a nice glow, without being too over the top or glittery.
Just as every nail polish addict knows, the nail polish world is ever changing. First it was nail art, then shatter polish, then Shellac, and now it’s magnetic nail polish.
Magnetic nail polish, you may ask? What could possibly be the purpose of that? And what does it look like? These were the first questions that came to my mind upon hearing about this new polish. It wasn’t long after that I was flipping through a magazine and found an article that explained all my questions about the unheard of magnetic nail polish.
Magnetic nail polish is a polish that uses an actual magnet to create a swirly, wavy polish effect. The design it creates on the nail is interesting and definitely something that cannot be achieved by nail art. And to answer one of the most frequent questions—no magnetic nail polish does not attract metal objects, it’s not THAT magnetic!
Upon reading about magnetic nail polish I knew I had to try it out. Luckily enough, my roommate bought me the three-polish set for my birthday. The set comes with a silver-gunmetal color, Trafalgar Square, a teal, Whitehall Teal, and a deep purple, Houses of Parliament.
To use magnetic nail polish only takes three simple steps, as the directions on the box describe:
Apply a first coat to all of the nails and let sit for a few minutes.
Paint the second coat on one nail.
Flip the magnetic cap over and hold over the nail for 10- 15 seconds, resting the rim on the cuticle. Repeat for all nails.
Magnetic nail polish is made by Nails Inc. London and is retailed at $16 each, sold only at Sephora.
Here are the results of all three color polishes. Pretty awesome I’d say!
Will you be trying out magnetic nail polish any time soon?
