You know that saying “you can’t always get what you want”? We all know how the song goes, but I sometimes like to think that I CAN, in fact, get what I want … which leaves me with fewer savings then I would like. Well, one thing led to another, which led to a few others, and a few more others, and then next thing I knew, I had made it the entire Summer with little-to-no new savings. And now I’m on a self-imposed shopping ban. Woe is me, I know.
While I can’t (or else I’ll lecture myself) buy anything, there are no rules in the shopping-ban book that say I can’t do some window shopping. So, I’ve been doing a lot of window shopping, which has lead to a well-rounded Fall 2013 wish list. So take a gander and purchase something (or a lot of somethings) in my honor.
I’ll happily admit that I’m obsessed with Kate Spade. Now, I’ll also admit that I’m even more obsessed with Kate Spade Saturday. The Saturday collection is affordable, cute, fun, and bright. What more could you want?
Well, if it’s a Saturday sale on Fab.com that you want, your wish is granted. Recently, Saturday was reacquainted with Fab and the result is nothing less than awesome. Make sure to check out the sale and pick up your favorite (discounted) pieces before they’re all gone!
Although a few of my favorites are already sold out, I picked out a whole new set for you to check out this week:
Square Tote: Black is classic, but look how fun this bright pink is! If you can’t wear colorful clothing in the workplace, I suggest toting around this beauty!
Reversible Cape: With all of the rain lately, I’m convinced a hooded cape is a closet essential. This one from Kate Spade Saturday is bold, fun, and reversible! Side note – uhm, how do I not own this already?
Wallet: Every girl needs an everyday wallet, and I’m thinking this one just might be the one for me! What beats a colorful and useful wallet, especially at a fraction of its original price?
Flats: I wear flats so much I’m surprised I’m not already sleeping in them. Okay, that might be because sleeping in shoes is just plain weird. But, I digress. These cotton canvas flats look totally cozy and cute to boot.
Mini Skirt: This year’s summer staple? An adorable and versatile mini skirt. Plus, this one from Kate Spade Saturday’s collection is a steal at $63!
What deal from the Fab and Kate Spade Saturday event are you going to grab before it’s gone?
Though I’ve been enjoying the cool temps (70-80 degrees) of Brasil, I’ve heard tons about the heat wave hitting the States this week. Though I am incredibly grateful I missed the intense heat, I do have a few of my own tips on how to make it through a heatwave.
First of all, if you have thick hair like I do, I would suggest learning how to make a sock bun. Actually, the gals over at Birchbox were kind enough to make an easy breezy how-to for you all. This will definitely help keep you cool, especially if you’re a city dweller like myself (those train stations really are hotter than a sauna).
Next, invest in a few fashion and beauty goods that will help you keep your cool during the high temps. Here are a few of my favorites to get you started:
A little white dress: There’s just something about wearing a white dress in summer that makes me feel like I’m staying cool better than those who run around in jet black dresses. This summer, I can’t get over Erin Fetherston’s designs.
Immortelle Brightening Essence: This little spray works wonders, trust me. I use it as a primer before applying make up in the morning, and then again halfway through the day to make sure my make up stays intact.
Avon’s Sunscreen Face Lotion: My cheeks are pink enough on their own, the last thing I need is a sunburn on my face! Try out a sunscreen specifically crafted for application to your face; the lotion is usually gentler, and often times a bit stronger to protect you from the harmful rays.
A classy pair of wedge sandals: The Lillian Patent Low Wedges by J.Crew are simply perfect for summer. The heel isn’t high at all, meaning you can really wear these for any occasion. Plus, the “apricot mist” shade goes with everything – including your little white dress!
What’s your favorite tip on making it through a heat wave?
Say hello to my favorite new flats! The pointed toe flat by Express has been on my radar for quite some time. In fact, I have these beautes in mint, neon berry satin and yellow fabric. I know, three pairs is a little overkill, but they’re just so perfect! With most flats being so uncomfortable and hard to break in, these flats are a welcome (and comfortable!) sight.
I love these so much that I just had to share this gem of a find with you all. Plus, Express is still having their 40% off everythingsale until this evening! You just can’t beat 40% off of every single item.
How do you feel about pointed toed flats?
The mint pointed toe flat is also available in “stone.” Style these with dark denim and thin chambray for an effortlessly chic summer look.
The satin pointed toe flat is available in “neon berry,” “bonfire,” and “aquarium.” Pair these with a maxi this summer for a fun, jewel-toned look.
I’m obsessed with pastels, neons, and bright colors, but this week I’ve been feeling the look of clean, crisp whites. So far this week I’ve donned white lace dresses, white jeans, and white blouses (not all together, duh). But, the only thing I’m missing is the perfect pair of white shoes! Note, I used to have the perfect pair from Urban Outfitters, but they happened to snap right in half on the street! Needless to say, I was not impressed.
Luckily for me (and you!), Elle decided it was about time to put together a roundup of the perfect white shoes for this season. With heels, sneakers, flats, and oxfords, the list is a pretty great source for white shoe inspiration. In fact, here are a few of my favorites!
1. The Flats: The flat – a perfect way to wear your whites this season. Wear these during the day or pair them with your favorite LBD for dinner on the patio of your favorite restaurant.
2. The Oxford: The oxfords – pair these babies with dark skinny jeans and your favorite comfy chambray shirt for a casual look this season.
3. The Heel: The heel – a must have for summer. A classic, clean pair of white heels will work perfectly with your neons or pastels.
What pair of white shoes will you be wearing this season?
Today is the first official day of spring. That means the clocks are set forward, we’ve begun spring-cleaning and it is time to fill our closet with spring essentials. I, for one, am excited to tuck away my boots and pull out my ballet flats.
Ballet flats are the perfect shoes for spring, as they pair perfectly with floral skirts and spring dresses. That’s why I always stock up on flats in a number of different styles, prints and colors.
This year I’m planning on picking up a pair in a pretty mint hue, bright neon and on-trend black and white. Below are six of my favorite picks, each for less than $30.
I walk around Boston a lot, so comfortable footwear is needed. However, when I go out at night, wearing flats just never seems to give me the look I’m going for. I’m short, so I always like to have some sort of a heel to give me some extra height. Unfortunately, walking around in high stilettos isn’t as practical as I’d like it to be. My new solution to this issue is ankle boots and I’ve already found quite a few pairs that I’m in love with.
The best part about ankle boots is that they have a chunky heel so they give you a few extra inches without killing your feet. They’re actually easy to walk in and you won’t need to take your shoes off an hour into the night.
I like the contrast between the brown wood and black suede and leather on the Orawin Boot from Aldo. The heel is four inches, so it’s not too high and the thickness of the heel gives you extra support. The gold zipper and side tassel add some extra edge to these boots!
H&M has beige ankle boots that have a 2¾ inch heel. They are faux suede and have zip on the inside leg. They are a great option to more expensive boots, with a price tag under $50.
If you’re looking to test out this style and not spend too much, check out Forever 21. This season they have a lot of ankle boots at reasonable prices. I really like these tasseled zip booties and they’re on sale for $22.96. These round toe booties come in black or brown and are on sale for $26.46.
Despite the unseasonably sunny weather, shoe racks on the High Street are being completely cleared of strappy sandals and open toes to make way for footwear made for the colder months. The bad news? Dropping temperatures are sure to be headed our way shortly. The good news? The season of the boot is upon us!
The savvy designers at New Look are definitely embracing the trend with a great new line of women’s boots definitely worth perusing. Prepare for some major shoe envy! Boots are always an Autumn footwear favorite and here are a few top styles for the coming season—unique boots made for walking, strutting, dancing and more.
The Cowboy Boot-
Just like a great pair of jeans, these classic women’s boots will never go out of style. Cowboy boots aren’t just for festival season either—pair with a mini skirt and tights for a casual look to take you from summer to autumn.
The Biker Boot-
Where the cowboy boot is a little bit country, there is nothing more rock’n’roll than a pair of black leather biker boots. Studs couldn’t be more in this season, so don’t be afraid to go for a pair decked out with metallic detailing. Wear with a leather jacket and a lace top for a tough look with a feminine edge.
The Sculpted Heel-
Lady Gaga has been known to strut in some very unique skyscraping sculpted heels, and many designers have adopted the trend with womens boots that even mere mortals can wear without sacrificing style for comfort. New Look’s Taupe Platform Wedge Ankle Boots (pictured) are a great nod to Gaga without going to extreme heights. You may not be trekking through the snow in these, but they’re perfect for stomping on the dance floor.
The Peep Toe Ankle Boot-
Like the sculpted heel, the peep toe may not be a conventional feature on a boot, but fashion is all about the unexpected! It’s a flirty addition for this season’s boots, leaving you with no excuses not to keep up that pedicure well into winter!
The Bright Boot-
Who said boots have to be black or brown? This summer was all about bold colours and bright patterns, so let’s keep the trend on its feet with bright boots! From blue suede ankle boots to walking boots with tribal inspired knit details, make a colourful statement with your footwear!
When I think Sperry Top-Sider, I think boat shoes, barbeques, and summertime. I love my rose gold metallic Sperry’s that I rock for a lot of the summer.
However, as I was browsing my local Nordstrom the other weekend, I picked up a pretty flat that caught my eye. It was leopard print (always a fave of mine), and looked comfortable and well-constructed. I was shocked when I looked inside the shoe and saw that it was made by the one and only Sperry Top-Sider.
From there I did some investigating on what Sperry has to offer besides their classic boat shoes. Yet again I was surprised by some of my findings! Sperry has a lot of good-looking flats and a nice selection of rain boots. While some of the shoes are a little bit on the pricey side, I definitely would consider purchasing some of them mainly based on their quality. Any company that makes boat shoes has to make sturdy winter and rain boots as well, right?
Here are some of my favorite Sperry-Topsider shoes that I found. While I can’t say if I would spend this amount of money on some of them, I can say that I might if they look cute on and are comfortable!
I have to warn you that I am a bit of a Sam Edelman addict. And by a bit, more like I dream about every wildly unique and charming collection with the changing seasons. That’s why I had to share with you my obsession with the Sam Edelman Fall 2012 collection.
Sure the fall and boot season may seem like light-years away from the humid August weather, but this is the best time to shop fall footwear. Since it is still a little too early for back-to-school shoppers, you are much more likely to find your shoe size now.
Sam Edelman’s Fall collection is made up of fun animal prints, bright colors, and charming booties. This designer does an amazing job incorporating prints without being over-the-top crazy. The playful designs of this collection allow you to easily shift from day to night in many of the styles.
I have to admit that I have already purchased two of the pairs from the fall collection that I show below (the Adele boot and the Fern flat), but only because I know the great comfort and quality that comes with all Sam Edelman shoes.
Discover some of my favorites from the Sam Edelman Fall 2012 collection below and get searching from some of your own ASAP! You will not regret it—this Sam Edelman supporter promises you.
