As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, I won’t be doing anything romantic this Valentine’s Day. I’ll be visiting my grandparents in DC and getting afternoon tea. I mean, if that doesn’t spell HOT, I don’t know what does.
But just because I won’t be with my boyfriend this weekend doesn’t mean I can’t get dressed up in celebration in love. And with that, I wanted to share with you my planned Valentine’s Day OOTD.
If you’re like me, you love Valentine’s Day but your celebrations are pretty low key. My boyfriend and I never do anything too elaborate. He’ll send flowers to my office then we’ll eat dinner together at home. Fighting the crowds for a table at an over-priced restaurant just isn’t our cup of tea.
Low-key celebrations call for easy outfits and quick makeup routines. This year I’ll be visiting my grandparents in DC and going to afternoon tea for the day of love, so I’ll be opting for a 5-minute Valentine’s Day makeup routine. I filmed a quick tutorial on this look, which you can watch below or on our YouTube channel. I hope you enjoy!
I’m not sure which one I’ll wear on Valentine’s Day just yet, but I’m leaning towards either essie’s Butler Please or Covergirl Outlast’s Lasting Love. I love the classic feel of Lasting Love and the unexpected twist of Butler Please. Lasting Love is a bit obvious, but Butler Please is perfect for those who don’t want to take that direction. If anyone tells you that blue has no place on Valentine’s Day, just start reciting “Roses are Red” and flash your gorgeous nails in their face. That will show them!
Since polish in the bottle isn’t always indicative of what it looks like on the nail, I’ve swatched all six colors below.
OPI – You Callin’ Me a Lyre
wHet – Nonchalant
essie – Butler Please
Sinful Colors – Boom Boom
Covergirl Outlast – Lasting Love
essie – Play Date
If you can’t make up your mind, just paint each nail a different color … of grow 4 extra hands. I think the former is a bit more realistic.
What nail color will you be sporting this Valentine’s Day?

Whenever it comes to a holiday, I realize how difficult it can be to dress for the occasion without appearing unoriginal, or even worse, tacky. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, I began brainstorming different ideas on what to wear. This is the moment when I stumbled upon the Free People Valentine’s Day collection.
I have always been a huge Free People fan, and when I say huge, I mean that in high school it seemed all I wore was boho-chic dresses and Minnetonka fringe boots. One of my favorite parts about the site is that they put together different mini “collections” using clothes and accessories to fit upcoming holidays and trends. For Halloween I was the Black Swan, and I have to credit some of my inspiration in constructing the costume to Free People’s past Black Swan collection. Similarly, their Valentine’s Day collection is certain to inspire my choice in Valentine’s Day outfits.
The collection is made up of an array of scarlet dresses, blush pink tops, and creative accessories. I enjoy the way they use colors that are associated with Valentine’s Day but in a fun and unconventional way. One of my favorite pieces is the Lace Striped Maxi Dress ($168), the perfect Valentine’s dress for those lucky enough to live near the warm beaches.
I also am in love (I have to use the word love for Valentine’s Day, right?) with the La Boheme Ruffle Dress in red ($498). Such a beauty!
While many of their items are on the more expensive side, the best thing any fashionista can take out of this collection is inspiration! Let these items direct you to assembling your own outfit that has a touch of your own flare in it. I know that’s what I’ll be doing as I search Newbury Street for an outfit in the upcoming weeks!
For some of us, an entirely red outfit on Valentine’s Day is overkill but we still want to sport a little bit of love. One easy way to spread the love without making people lovesick is by adorning your outfit with a red or pink ring. Get your hands on one of these five rings and you are ready to rock this coming Monday.
February is a short month; typically it only has 28 days, and every four years it has 29 days. February is the month the groundhog determines how much longer winter will last. It is the last full month of winter (usually!), and February is also the month for Valentine’s Day, a day that many despise and would do anything to skip.
This year, Valentine’s Day is on a Monday, so class or work is how most will spend their day. Regardless of what your plans are, looking and feeling cute will help make Valentine’s Day a little more bearable…promise!
Lunch Date or Dinner Date Right After Work:
If you are meeting your Valentine for a lunch date during work, don’t worry — you can still look pretty and professional at the same time. Pair a silky shirt with a pencil skirt and tights. Add a pair of boots or some comfortable heels. Throw on a cardigan to complete the look.
It looks like it is a skirt with a shirt and belt, but it is actually a one-piece dress. This is the perfect choice for work and play.
Whether you are cooking a romantic dinner with your boy or watching chick flicks with your girlfriends, you can look sexy while being 100% comfortable.
Curl up on the couch in an oversized sweater and leggings. Pair with some comfortable boots or booties. Don’t worry about pigging out on your delicious dinner; the sweater will hide everything!
Night Out With Your Man:
Regardless if your date is the man of your dreams or just someone to have fun with, why not dress up in a sexy little number for dinner? Just remember you can be sexy without going overboard.
Black is always a great choice, or go a little bolder with a bright pink or red dress.
Girls Night Out:
Go for a little glitz before you and your girlfriends hit the town. Pair your favorite skinny jeans with a fun sequin tank top, and your favorite heels or flats. Don’t forget to top the outfit with a cute little clutch.
Try to take a few extra minutes when picking out an outfit for Valentine’s Day. It isn’t going to be February 15th any sooner, so try to make the most out of it. You might actually enjoy it!
Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us, and this year, we’re feeling particularly amorous. To share the love, we’re wearing our hearts on our sleeves — er, around our necks — with a selection of lovely necklaces that make our hearts go pitter patter.
I’m getting a bit ahead of myself with this one, but I just wanted to get you all ready for Valentine’s Day with some red, white, pink and lace. Whether you are going out with your significant other or having a girls’ night, it’s still fun to primp and pamper yourself for the day of love.
For the rest of February, Np2 is giving back in honor of American Heart Month by donating 10 percent of all red nail polish purchases to the American Heart Association. The polishes have amazing pigmentation and formulation (why I love Np2), and the American Heart Association is such a good cause. How can you not purchase one of the red polishes from Np2?
In the search for the perfect nail color for Valentine’s Day weekend, I tried two of Np2’s red polishes: Electric Charge and Multiplied.
Electric Charge on the left; Multiplied on the right
And what did I choose for my Valentine’s Day nails…Electric Charge!
Each polish retails for $22.50 (including the attached bottle of top-coat) and can be caught on Np2’s website.
